Thanks!! Is it ever released? On some single or something?
Is it Keith and Mick Taylor or is this one with Ron?

by the way - almost all the versions that have showed up on various boots over the years play way too slow. Mickboy corrected the speed with his inclusion of the song on his IORR remaster....that's the one to look for....

I believe it was suppose to be on IORR at one time (but "Ain't too proud" might have knocked it off or something)....

seriously - what the hell is wrong with Drift Away. I think most people consider one of the great soul tunes ever....the Stones did it justice, too...so did Rod the Mod, the Nevilles and several others....

I have one Drift Away version which sounds as great as Through The Lonely Nights from Rarities...

Actually I am making my own Rarities 1971-2003 collection:
01 Fancy Man Blues - 1989
02 Let It Rock - Live 1971
03 Beast Of Burden - Live 1981
04 If I Was A Dancer (Dance Pt 2) - 1981
05 Miss You (Dance Version) - 1978
06 Through The Lonely Nights - 1974
07 Think I'm Going Mad - 1984
08 Wish I'd Never Met You - 1990
09 Mixed Emotions (12" Version) - 1989
10 Winning Ugly (NY Mix) - 1986
11 Harlem Shuffle (NY Mix) - 1986
12 Terrifying (12" Dance Mix) - 1989
13 Cook Cook Blues - 1989
14 So Young - 1994
15 If You Can't Rock Me - Live 2003
16 Drift Away - Unreleased 1974

I'm still thinking about 14-16... I am thinking about I Just Want To Make Love To You from the No Security Japanese album. But then I have to cancel So Young and If You Can't Rock Me (which really rocks).

can't stand Mick's affected vox on it - and the chorus is just cheesy. everything on the IORR album is better.

In that case the period must be changed: Mixed & Rarities 1971-1994 !

The Stones cover of Drift Away is excellent. It was toss up between this song and Ain't Too Proud To Beg as to which would be the It's Only Rock 'n' Roll soul tune. We know which one won and the rest as they say, is history.

I think Drift Away is just great. Anyway I am now burning my Mixed Rarities 1971-2003 version, the one I mentioned earlier (see above).

kazaa had this thing listed as being by The Stones and Beatles together. Never mind that Dobie Gray didin't releases his version (the hit) until 1973. Great song - like Dobie, Stones and Rod versions. Never heard the Nevilles or Sheryl.
