John Frusciante - Stadium Arcadium

John Frusciante's guitar on Stadium Arcadium is gently in the background and also there are so many hendrix -esque styles and techniques throughout the record. His solo on Turn It Again has to be one of the best solos I have heard in a long time put on a rock record. His solo on Strip My Mind is wailing and sonic. He is always experimenting as a player an artist. His guitar on Hey and
Anthony's vocals are perfect together.John plays alot of augmented and dimished
chords and again is always expermenting with chord structure and arrangements.

I'm fed up with the RHCP. They are meaningless to me since they released Blood Sugar Sex Magic.

How can you be fed up with a brilliant guitarist like John F.

I don't care about a single member's style in a band, that is an extra if the songs are good.
As the song sucks John F. is a waste of talent in that band.

The only thing I disagree with is that JF's guitarwork is "gently in the background" smiling smiley

It is on some tracks like the jazz-infused "Hey"...

On the other hand there's just blistering guitar crescendos on: Torture Me, C'Mon Girl, Warlocks, 21st Century, Turn it Again, Readymade, Storm in a Teacup, and many other tracks.

I agree I just did not type it down.

On the song Hey, Thats a great example of them writing a different kind of song and musically they pull it off with flying colors.

At least they don,t play it safe and are not afraid to experiment and Anthony's
lyrics have more substance as he gets older.

You got it!

There's no describing the Chili Pepper's sound... they have so many and they are all unique. Just when they hit you with a major rocker like Backwoods they turn around and hit you with a dreamscape like Venice Queen, a heroin-rocker like Deep Kick, a funky groove like Jungle Man, pure Jazz like Hey, or an epic like Savior.........

Name me any other band that's cranked out 3 super-major albums in the past 6 years, with at least 25 classic songs on those albums (Californication, By the Way, and Stadium Arcadium)...

I agree,

I have always thought that Jagger's lyrics could of had more substance as he grew older and not just writing about love gone wrong. The Chili's in their mid/late
30's are writing better quality songs and records then the stones did IMO.

Mid 40's actually, although Frusciante is still in his 30's.

I am happy for others who find pleasure in them, but the RHCP do absolutely nothing for me. Every song is bland, sounds the same and boring to me.

IMO - some of those blistering guitar crescendos are nothing special...he's just jamming...I think the solos might SEEM blistering because so few bands have capable guitarists nowadays...

I don't think any of his solos on the new record compare to the one he laid down on "My Lovely Man"

Again - Keidis ruins the majority of Chilli songs for me

My Lovely Man was 15 years ago... have you found nothing in their output since then of interest ??

I find a very high level of musicianship in this band, given that it's effectively a TRIO... drums, bass & guitar, that's it.

I must be one of the few people who actually like Anthony's vocals. I think he fits the band perfectly and has improved greatly over the years (but he was never HORRIBLE in my opinion to begin with). I also think he writes brilliant lyrics and has amazing charisma.

But yes, John is a great guitarist and songwriter.

count me among that enlightened few - anthony is an excellent singer IMCO. his pinnacle is the californication disc. "scar tissue" is a good place to start.

frusciante is a very good player....some one really did listen to his hendrix records as a kid...the solo on wetsand is perhaps the best i have heard in a long time...to me he is as good on this record as anything by mick taylor or srv or hendrix

Most of the tour-related stuff is under the "Road Trippin" category on the message boards... reviews of all their tours and individual concerts, etc. It's a great website for CP fanatics smiling smiley

Below is link to the message boards:

Frusciante shines because he is a great, versatile player, not a one trick pony. One thing that makes his stuff stand out is that the RHCP don't clutter their tracks with a million overdubs. Too much of today's guitar rock has that saturated sound where nothing cuts through.
I like Stadium Arcadium a lot, and was surprised by the lack of filler material even if it is a double-cd.

One reason you know that's true is that the LIVE sound of the band in concert is as good or better than the studio recordings.

Everything they record is designed with live play in mind.
