The diference is about $20.000. But for the average player, the main differences are the lacquer: the vintage one has nitro, while the reissue has polyurethane (which deadens the sound). The wood of the reisue is of a much, much lesser quality, and the shape if the neck is different (U-shape for the original versus C shape for the reissue). All in all, the vintage reissue is not even close to a real vintage. The Custom Shop Nocaster is much, MUCH better -it can fool you into thinking it was a real one.

A tip if you don't want to spend THAT much money on a guitar: buy a Custom Shop one pickup Fender Esquire. They are half the money of the Nocaster. All yo have to do is let a luthier install a humbucker. Closer to Keith you won't get without buying a vintage original.

I have a 52' with a gibson in the neck. It sounds great but the poly.. finish can slow you down when moving up the and down the neck. Other than that and the thing absolutly rocks. Just make sure to get an excellent luthier do the work, because that would be a very expensive experiment. My luthier knew what I was trying to do new to change the "pots?" and couple other things in the "guts" of the guitar. It made a world of a difference.

Go Dawgs!

How about sanding the poly finish on the neck a bit? very fine grain of course.
