It's neither. It's

Honky Tonk Women

funny that rs.com writes it with an "a"

Gramatically, of course, womAn makes more sense:

It's a Ho-o-o-o-on-ky Tonk Woman.

>> Gramatically, of course <<

well, but if we're calling on grammar: it's "give me the honky tonk blues" (not "gives me"), isn't it.
i hear wimmin, very clearly - and an elided form of "it's the", not "it's a".
but anyway, wasn't it "women" on the single? (i wouldn't worry too much about what rs.com says - they've got mistakes all over the place.)

Let's have a look, shall we?

Love You Live says Honky Tonk Women.

Forty Licks says Honky Tonk Women.

Live Licks says Honky Tonk Women.

I'd go with Honky Tonk Women.

The original vinyl 45 rpm says Women too.

HONKY TONK WOMEN

The last track Brian Jones recorded with the Stones, on March 10 & 11, 1969. But his guitar was edited out and Mick Taylor's guitar was dubbed in at the last minute, before it's release as a single in the UK on July 3, 1969. Also released as a US single on July 11, 1969, went to # 1 on the charts in both the US and UK.

I think that the last word on this should go to a new friend I made at the Toronto show in September. He told me he had been going to see the Stones since the 60's and that his favourite soing was "HONKY TONKY WOMENS". So that must be it!

I always thought of it as Woman.

Yeah in a way that would be logical.

But if you read the lyrics, you'll see that he talks about 2 specific girls. And he thinks of them, and many others, as Honky Tonk Women.

Mauahwhaha!

I think of it as "Woman" when I write it. But when it is sung it almost makes more sense to say "women". As in "It's them lowdown no-good bellyaching ballbreaking hinky horny tonk womEEEn"

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

This story can't be true. Both the Country Honk version and the electric Honky Tonk Women where started during the March 1969 sessions -without Jones, who wass only present to do an overdub on You Got The Silver- and the actual released version were recorded between July 17 and June 5th, 1969 -AFTER Jones was sacked from the band, and with Mick Taylor already on guitar. All people present at these sessions stated (Ian Stewart, Jimmy Miller, Jagger, Richards and Taylor) that Honky Tonk Women came together after Mick Taylor started playing the country bends. According to all, the final version was basically a one-taker, with only the brass section and third guitar overdubbed at a later point.

It's a nice and romantic story about Brian's last recording being HTW, but it just isn't true.

WYMAN seems to be a good choice

I'm pretty sure it's women.

And the singing line is:
'It's the honky tonk women'

And it's HONKY, not Honkey.

I like the song Country Honk better..
And I know hoe to write it.. smiling smiley

Well, you have always been wrong, dear.

IT'S WOMEN. It's the HONKY TONK WOMEN. He's not talking about a particular woman, he's talking about a certain variety of women....not WOMAN. WOMEN! Please. Now, let's move on already....

HONKY TONK WOMEN is the correct spelling.

For some reason they spell it wrong as "woman" on official set liste etc. May be aqlso on RS.com. I don't know. But it is still WOMEN. As originally etc.

It's Jumpin' Jack Flash. Check your official CD's, they all say Jumpin'.
