Zemaitis....

I have been researching Ronnie's 1972 Disc Zemaitis with the 3 Dimarzio pickups.

I am dying to get my hands on one but they are around $8500 and I am poor. SO can anyone point me a good direction for a copy at much much less. Thanks

If you want a Zemaitis (either made by him or the newer ones)
you'll pretty much have to mortgage your house to get.
I played a newer one in NYC a few months ago and almost fainted
when they told me how much they wanted.
If you just want one that LOOKS like it, you can make your own.
Find a cheap guitar with a similiar body, have it finished to look like it,
and put some the proper pickups in (those pickups are expensive, though).
Theres a few Zemaitis websites on the Web that'll tell you what materials
went into making one.

yes they are very expensive, indeed

have you ever had a look at Ron's signature Duesenberg?
At least its more likely you can afford one of them.

I have a real Tony Z and a copy..You could find copies of the Keith Pirate guitar, and the mother-of-pearl ones for around $3k US. They play just like the real ones and you don't have to worry too much on the road..

Thanks for the input. It is doubtful that I will ever be able to make or afford one! Oh well. Thanks

Hi, @#$%&

The japanese guitar maker Greco has an agreement with the son of Tony Zemaitis to manufacture "Zemaitis licensed" copies:

There are a few japanese webshops to check. Do a Google for "Greco Zemaitis" and you'll find a few, here is one:

Disc front Zemaitis at approx $2880 and $2300. Greco also makes a copy of the Metal Front Zemaitis at approx $2500, which is the one I love, BTW.

Well, those copies don't look too bad.
but 1) it ain't gonna play and feel like a real Zemaitis,
and since each one of his was hand-made, they're pretty distinctive.
2) the pickups are different than what Wood has in his.
I believe he has PAFs in his. However, the ones that these come with aren't bad.
I'd certainly be more interested in these than some other brands out there.
Horses for courses.

Yeah Anybody know where I can get the one of these for Less than $2000 even another make. IF the pickups suck I can put new ones in later if it is not cost prohibative. Thanks for (As we say down here) Yall's help!

GO Dawgs!

It would be impossible for a $2500 guitar to have vintage PAF pickups, as these alone could be $1500 the pair... I believe these are the best reasonably-priced Zemaitis copies.

I love PAF's. I have cream PAFs in my 56 LP, and they scream! Dude was refering to Ronnie's Z, not the copy.

Yep, I know he was refering to Ronnie's guitar: it was only a further remark what I did.

BTW, if you have a 56 LP and a Zemaitis I wouldn't mind doing a robbery in your house, mate! What Zemaitis model do you have? Since when? How much?? grinning smiley Tell us something!

I have a 1980 hummingbird with the metal front, traded an old rosewood tele for it in the 90s. Miss that Tele. The 56LP i bought off of Eddie Martinez, who played with Rod and Robert Palmer. I got that for 4k, I think..As for the robbery, my german shepherds would love to see ya!
