Brussels 73 - Jagger Says After YCAGWYW We Are Really Quick

As noted many times all the songs from MR to SFM have a fast pace and I wondered
if Jagger saying we are really quick after they ended YCAGWYW and wnet into MR had an effect.Probably not it was just that guy named Vibrato.

"We're very quick, aren't we?"

I'm pretty sure that's Mick being sarcastic as it takes some time for Keith to make the transition to Midnight Rambler (putting on the capo, getting in tune, and maybe switching guitars?) I think Mick J was just filling up some dead air.

Interesting point---never thought of it that way.

I would be fairly certain that Keith switched guitars
for Midnight Rambler---no other song (I don't think) has the
capo up that far.

I always thought Mick was asking Keith for a "very quick" version of MR, which Keith grants indeed.

I also thought it was a "warning" to the audience, that this will run faster than the Get-Yer-Ya-Yas-Out - version.

Not for me, but for many people, yes.

I always thought he said they're very quick aren't they, maybe refferring to the soundengineers who killed the distortion very quick, just my two cents.

i always assumed Jagger's being sarcastic to the audience because from their chanting he can tell that they have already worked out that it's Midnight Ramble coming up next.
A vaguely hostile reaction, probably motivated by his fear of being predictable.

I've always thought it was nothing more than a comment about something that was going on on stage, probably the transitional changes between songs. It sounds like a self-effacing comment to fill space, little more.

I also think sometimes people read way too much into the Stones' onstage comments and body language.

I wouldn't say that.
I'd never thought of this sentence, before discussing it here. I just thought it sounded cool, just like the other 65 minutes of the show.
It's funny about this site, that you can discuss ONE SENTENCE that Mick said 33 years ago.

I always thought Jagger is talking about to the guy behind the monitor mixing desk. There's various other shows from '72 and '73 where he asks for the volume to be lowered as he starts the harmonica intro, or that he reacts because it takes too long.

I like hoodoovoodoo's take on it. Makes a lot of sense. However, I always thought it was directed at Keith, as if to say "let me finish my bloody harmonica intro before you start."

Erik, you're right, it is very funny that we are here discussing an off-handed comment from decades ago! Man, I need to get out more!!!!

ALL GIGS with Mick Taylor were characterized by incredible speed.

I don't know about their best show, but it does contain some of the definative versions of songs like You Can't Always Get What You Want, Midnight Rambler and Angie. Some would include Gimmie Shelter in that as well, as for me it is a fantastic version, but I can think of a few I like just as much if not better.

If you play it backwards, it says...Brian Is Dead.

I think it's something different.

It takes some time to re-adjust Jagger's mic eq settings so the harmonica sounds good. That's why he plays some harmonica before the song on tour; to give the soundcrew the opportunity to do their thing.

It takes quite some time on Brussels, since the mic keeps feedbacking. It seems Jagger is irritated by that.

I always understood it as "Very quick on, Mick" but that may be wrong. Besides some live recordings are indeed special for some short moments. Remember the girl on GYYYO screm 'Paint it black, you devils' or someone in the Brussels audience screaming 'Jagger', and Jagger says 'Oooh yeah'. That anticipation adds to the magic of the songs, doesn't it?
