Was the show good ? Hmm, let me think about that.
Well, it was too short for a start. But apart from that, let me say firstly that Little Richard today (I THINK he's 73 or 74) is not wearing that well. It was fantastic to see him, the legendary man himself, but he's a bit kind of dithery in an "old person" sort of way, and a bit unsteady on his little ole feet, and he does tend to spend 10 minutes here and there telling a story or cracking a joke. That's all very well, but it gets a bit tiresome because it just limits the amount of time he spends sitting at that piano and pulling that microphone up close and letting rip. But when he does ........................... boy does he still have it ? It was a privilege to see him, and all the peripheral stuff you can just about put up with, because when he actually DOES let rip with all those great old r & r songs like Good Golly Miss Molly etc, he's timeless and you're back in the 50's.
Towards the end of the show, after listening to him rabbit on about friends here and friends there and visits here and visits there, he FINALLY got around to introducing the next song, which he said was in honour of a good English friend of his from "right here in London" - and that was when he launched into IORR in honour of his good friend Mick Jagger. It was a great version, he's got a very large and very accomplished band with him these days. At least he did have when he toured the UK in 2005.
