O.T Ryan Adams to tour U.K
Posted by: Adrian-L ()

Ryan Adams has announced a U.K tour....(maybe this time, he'll actually
show-up.)
I've bought tickets for the London show-
(he's cancelled the last 3 times, i was due to see him).

His 3 album releases, this year, have all been great, though the latest, "29",
(only released on Monday) is probably the better work.

U.K shows are at: Gateshead The Sage (February 14)
Nottingham Royal Concert Hall (17)
Liverpool Philharmonic Hall (18)
Manchester Bridgewater Hall (20)
Bristol Colston Hall (21)
Apollo Victoria, London (24)

I don't think he's ever bettered, his early work with Whiskeytown,
and his 1st solo album "Heartbreaker".
He's a rare talent, but doesn't always deliver ("Rock and Roll"),
but when he does, it's a joy to behold ("29")

"Jacksonville City Nights" might be my favorite album of 2005. I just got "29", sounds a little wacky but not bad!

I thought his name was Bryan Adams, the guy that used to bang the Princess?

not aware of any Irish dates, but as you say, there are gaps, and as the tour sells out, maybe they'll add different locations/extra nights.
Apparently it is a solo tour- no Cardinals, this time.

Ok..cheers. Never seen him with a band before.

saw him play a solo show in Belfast 3 years ago. He opened with 'Shadowlands' - which he said he had only written that afternoon at the soundcheck!

He was an average opening act at MSG 2003.

He did once say if you see a Nikki Sudden album, buy it. Also he wants to record an album with Nikki, perhaps while he is in Europe?

Glad to see so many Ryan Adams fans here. The kid is definitely wacked, but on a good night he can be amazing. His albums are pretty much hit or miss, Heartbreaker being my fav but this year's Jacksonville City Nights is also superb. His old band Whiskeytown is worth checking out as well!

He used to do a very strange BALLAD version of Brown Sugar in concert. Like I said, he is a bit wacked!

Saw him, on friday (24th) in London.
He was, as Ross suggested he would be, "wacked"
Whether that was down to prescribed medicine for his troubling arm, or for more "recreational" reasons, i don't know, but it didn't detract from a quite brilliant show.
For most of the show, he was a lone, fragile, figure on stage and appeared, genuinely humbled, at the warm reception that was given to him, from an adoring crowd.
Switching intermittantly from piano to guitar and fumbling with his setlist,
his anecdotes, between songs were either hilarious or awkward and embarrasing, but his singing and musicianship never faltered.

A couple of The Cardinals (his regular backing band, on the recent albums) came out and played with him, at various stages, during the second half of the concert. (there was a scheduled half-time intermission, which Ryan explained, was necessary to get his arm seen to..he's obviously still suffering with it, 2 years after falling off stage in Liverpool).
He finished with a stirring "Rescue Blues", someone shouted out from the crowd
"You're a legend"..which kind of summed it up.

Hopefully he can put his demons to rest, finally get his arm fully fixed and continue to enchant and give pleasure, for years to come.
We need musicians of his calibre.

when Ryan And Neal Cazal (The Cardinals) played 'Let It Ride'
they sat back to back,
someone a few rows down, ahead of me, shouted out,
"How am i supposed to quit you", (from the movie Brokeback Mountain.)

which creased me up...one of the best heckles, i've ever heard at a gig.
