some say its going to be the biggest show in the world but the article cites Rod Stewart as holding the Guiness record for his show also on the beach in Rio in '94:

On the Guiness site it mentions that Macca holds the record for a rock artist. It was at his Maracana concert on April 21st 1990. 184.000 people were there. (Note: This is for a SOLO performer).

Rod Stewart has the record from his 1994 New Years Eve gig on the Copacabana. The INSANE amount of 3.5 million people showed up. It's absolutely crazy. And the man sucks when he's solo.

All 3.5 million people didn't show up for Rod Stewart. New Year's Eve on the Copacabana always attracts huge crowds.
