just listening to this rare live performance from Ft.Worth, Texas '72....and wondering why they dropped this song like a hot potato.....i really like this version.....has a calypso feel to it...especially Micks vocals...and on this audience recording Keith is prominent, so it's a real treat to hear him at work....and i'm guessing Jim Price playing some tasty trumpet fills at the end.....nice touch....just wondering what the verdict is from anybody that's heard it......sorry, i can't post MP3s.....date corrected...thanks

The reason they actually did it, was because camera's were rolling. That's why they chose some rare songs. Funny thing is, when asked to Mick Taylor about this song in the 90's he said "of course we didn't play that live, that would have been rediculous!".
If you listen to the recordings from the first concert of the tour in Vancouver it is also a shame that they played Torn and frayed and Ventilator blues just once. These were great songs in their live version, even if they would have included only one of them at each concert. Compared with the 1972 US tour the set lists of recent tours have a widevariety of songs.
things are much different now than they were in 1972.....with the internet and bulletin boards like this one everyone knows the setlist from every concert....which was far from the case back in 72.
i think that forces touring bands to at least make it look like they are playing a few different songs in each show to make the concerts look more spontaneous and interesting.
as for sweet black angel....it is probably the worst of the rarities played during this tour. torn and frayed....ventilator blues...don't lie to me....all came off ALOT stronger.
sba really sounds like a mumbled mess.....yes i am glad they did it.....but still...it is not as good as other material from this tour.
