"There will be a tour. We already have European Festival dates slotted in June and July. (These are our first Festivals since Cincinatti, a mark of respect to the fans who died at our concert there in December 1979. That long time ban of ours on playing 'festival' seating, with very few exceptions, was finally broken at Live Aid 1985, and Live 8 and Yokohama Japan now showing on TowserTV in 2004).
The American part of the tour, probably in three - or even four - legs, happens from September to December. We go on to the rest of the world in 2007. There will be a new CD sometime in the early summer. I know I've cried wolf a few times, but this time I have committed because I have about enough music for a new CD, and I'm still producing. Also, Rachel has agreed to come for the entire tour and do In The Attic before every show. This will prevent me becoming bored."
I think its a shame. I love the Who but I get the feeling this is tarnishing their legacy? Just call it Townshend & Daltry or something and not The Who
i'm really looking forward to seeing them tour again. Saw them twice in '04 A 'Club gig' at The Kentish Town Forum, and at The Royal Albert Hall, afew night later- where they did a Greatest Hits set, before performing Tommy... quite a night. I've never been fortunate enough to get tickets for a Stones club show- but i can testify, to what a remarkable occasion, a Who club show ,is.
I saw them in Greensboro, NC in 75. First time I ever saw laser lights. I loved "Boris The Spider." Keith Moon was a hoot during introductions. Townsend wore an Esso (now Exxon) jump suit and combat boots. Daltry did some Christ like imagery with some Tommy songs and the laser lights behind him. Oh yeah, I had a head full of acid.
Saw them again in Greensboro in 1980 or 81.
Then saw them at a big outdoor show in Jacksonville, FL in 1982 with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and also the B-52's as opening acts.
Then again in Raleigh NC in 1989, supposedly for the last time according to Townsend, yeah right. Before the tour he was whining about damage to his ears and to his blody fingers. "Don't expect anything too hard," he said. They started with a lengthy Tommy set. Then he and the band just blew us away with the other classics. Townsend atacked his guitar with the usual airplane spins, and jumped up and down like he was still a teenager, landing on his knees a time or two.
The Who are like the Stones - people are eager to write them off but every time they play live they wipe the floor with the competition - they did so at Live 8, and they probably will on this next tour too.A new CD is way overdue though so we may hope they showcase this a bit more than the Stones are doing with ABB

Zak Starkey blows Kenny Jones out of the water. I've seen The Who several times w/ Zak, and I think he's at least as good as Moon. Entwistle was a definite loss, but with Pete, Roger, and Zak, still a great show!

I'm pretty sure Pete Townshend already did that by surfing kiddy-porn....

LOL, sticky He said he was doing research for song ideas or something like that, remember? Let's see if this upcoming CD has some pedophilia songs like Fiddle About on it.
First saw The Who in the early '70s, rushing to the edge of the stage to be around six feet from Townshend's Doc Martin boots.
Saw them last at the Isle of Wight open air festival in June 2004, and the televised Albert Hall concert the same year.
Whilst Daltrey unfortunately doesn't have the voice he used to, the band still thrill. I can still do a mean air guitar imitating Townshend. Zak Starkey is a great rock drummer.

Under the circumstances, I thought "Real Good Looking Boy" was a somewhat disturbing song title!

Zak at least as good as Moon? Please. Did you ever SEE Moon. If not, check out Live At The Isle Of Wight. You can't take your eyes off him. The best there ever was or ever will be.

Sure I saw them with Moon. Did YOU ever see them with Zak? Damned if the guy doesn't channel Keith Moon in appearance AND musical style.

It's hard to say. He played with them at Live Aid in '85 and again at a Brit awards show in '88. Then they toured without him in '89. Supposedly, he got tired of waiting around for them to DO someting so he got busy with other things and when they called him for the '89 tour he said "sorry I'm busy with other shit" and they said "well @#$%& you, we didn't like you that much anyway". Or something like that ....

Hey R, I had no idea about Zak. I loved Moon and always lamented his departure and subsequent replacement. Now I'm even more excited about seeing the new tour. Thanks.
Channels Keith in appearance and style? This I gotta see. Luke

Yes, I saw them with Zak a couple of times in 2002. I enjoyed it very much but that was mainly because Pete was playing so well. He had to. As the original band's only remaining MUSICIAN, it was entirely up to him to make some noises that the audience could recognize as the Who. And he did do and admirable job of that. But Zak and Pino are replacement parts. Lots of people could do those jobs. Just visit a jazz club sometime ....
i'm pretty sure, i read somewhere (Tony Fletcher's excellent "Dear Boy" Moon biography?) that Keith was Zak's Godfather, and actually taught him to play.
Adrian-L Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Zak's brilliant. > He's a very busy chap- when he's not playing > with The Who, he tours with Oasis
Zak is a full time member of The Who and is only 'on loan' to Oasis.....as a result he rarely appears in any of the Oasis artwork or publicity, despite the fact he played on every track bar one on 'Dont Believe The Truth'.
Looking forward to seeing him again back with The Who......it was after all Moonie who got him into drumming in the first place, his dad was against the idea!

Most true statement in this thread. I've seen a number of fantastic shows over the past few years, and Zak, well it pretty much feels like he's channeled the spirit of Moon. Still amazing and well worth seeing.
