The scuttle around Detroit is that Aretha may reprise her version of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" with the Stones at Superbowl XL playing piano and vocalizing. When a reporter asked her about the rumor she coyly replied, "We may have a surprise for you all."

Aretha is SO enormous anymore she likely couldn't hit her mark if she walked on. I'm picturing her behind a baby grand floating into the picture via a portable stage apparatus, from Keith's side, perhaps after they start JJF. Mick sings the first verse and chorus and then Aretha belts out the beginning of the second as she miraculously appears from the fog or something.

Good....only right that she should be there and she's one of the few people alive worthy of sharing a stage with the Stones

plus she did a bloody good version of JJ Flash a few years ago, as well.

"Wailing"? Please - shes the greatest female singer of all time.

The 'Aretha is fat' jokes are somewhat ironic considering how touchy Stones fans can be when people draw attention to their favourite band being ridiculed for being old and wrinkly!

Aretha and the Stones? that might be kind of cool actually. Let's hope she belts it out like only she can.

Didn't she play piano on her early records? Last week I saw photos of her in the studio with tom dowd in a documentary on tv. It would be great if she played with them.

But she's not motown, she's muscle shoals.

It was suggested to Keith to make her a part of the band when she recorded JJF. She played piano and smoked heavily (no pun intended). This according to Leavell's book "Between Rock And A Home Place".

Yeah she deserves respect and all, but I'm tired of the Stones being upstaged.

I don´t know what the purpose of judging Aretha by her size is, but she is one of the most influential black singers of all times. Like it or not, she desrves r-e-s-p-e-c-t.

and if they were, it would be their own fault for underperforming

Aretha isn't fat. She just has really big bones. I'd like to see her sit on Chuck's lap and let go of some wind. Nothing against Chuck, but it sure would be funny!
