My feeling was the entire band and "corporate structure" was in a big state of FLUX right about anytime in the late 70's to early 80's... Keith was strung-out on heroin, just recovering, the whole band was sort of coming off a 70's hangover.... Nicky Hopkins was sort of associated with that earlier period, IMO... and after Stu the whole function of keyboards in the Stones seems to be "louder noise, lower profile"...

The keyboards are not emphasixed enough as part-and-parcel of the Stones sound AND success.
