CINDY MIZELLE/NICKY HOPKINS

Listen to Atlantic City. The back-up vocals are so much rounder than nowadays. They really achieve a gospel sound with two female vocalists. Why only Lisa? Anyone knows why they favoured Chuck instead of Nicky in the 80's? Where there any quarrels? My ideal would have been a joint venture of Stu and Nicky (like they did with McLagan and Stu in 81)

My feeling was the entire band and "corporate structure" was in a big state of FLUX right about anytime in the late 70's to early 80's... Keith was strung-out on heroin, just recovering, the whole band was sort of coming off a 70's hangover.... Nicky Hopkins was sort of associated with that earlier period, IMO... and after Stu the whole function of keyboards in the Stones seems to be "louder noise, lower profile"...

The keyboards are not emphasixed enough as part-and-parcel of the Stones sound AND success.

Good point, Bayou.

I think that's the same reason they haven't brought Mac back, either - he's a potential bad influence on Mr. Wood.

I think he was sick off and on his whole life - stomach problems or something. He was hospitalized for a while in the mid-60s, I think for a year or so. Not sure if it was the same ailment that did him in, though.

I believe that Nicky had health problems from the late 70's
