Captured at MSG: Proof of Stones Fans Sitting in Chairs NOT Rocking Out
Posted by: BornOnTheBayou ()

Here's a reasonably wide angle shot of tonites (1-20) MSG gig... Notice that almost everyone in this highly venerated mecca of Rolling Stones energy is SITTING DOWN...

SO... we have now captured it on film. The lackadaisacal Stones audience. Just as Anthony Kiedis observed when the Chili Peppers warmed the stones up... the average stones audience is full of CPA's and real estate developers, it's not a hard-rocking crowd.

YET they can criticize Ronnie, Darryl, Chuck, Tim Ries, who knows who else... You could make any personnel changes you want, wouldn't get these people out of their seats.

This is appalling !

Something is really wrong with these people.

They don't deserve to see the Stones.

The real fans have to sit on their computers and look at pictures.

What a shame.

This is certainly unlike the high energy crowds in Boston, who responded to a raucous, playful, reelin' & rockin' Rolling Stones.

If I remember well, the audience at the MSG is always seated, ever since the opening of the venue. So, even in 1969 and 1972, the audience was sitting down.

I do not believe there were too many people on the floor sitting down during Satisfaction, Jumping Jack Flash, and Street Fighting Man from the Gimme Shelter movie.

It is one thing for people to sit down in the upper decks, but on the main floor....give up your ticket.

I sat in the absolute rafters at MSG on Wednesday. 400 level, stage right. People were "laughin' and singin'"--and standing--for virtually the whole show.

I felt as much energy there as I had from eighth row center in Boston on Sunday night.

can't even see anything with that camera pic anyways.

That's the way it is in the U.S. these days. I have at least one arguement per show because someone wants me to sit down. I just look at him and laugh. i'm no old fart!

I agree with the Rev... I was in the rafters too and not only was my section rocking, looking out over the crowd I saw the place going nuts... not the whole show, but sometimes when you hear an amazing tune like ATGB, you just wanna sit and listen to every note.... BUT THAT WASN'T MSG LAST NIGHT

Hello Guys,

I don´t know why so many stonesfans get offended when somebody says the truth: in many concerts there are just so much people sitting, and yes, they are "stones fans", not only bankers and those sort of people...

Many fans who know very much about the stones may just enjoy a concert in a very different than some of us who haven´t been to 20 concerts or so (or are not know it all bout the stones), but guys, if we are sitting at your side and singing out loud, or on the field and jumping like a crazy one, let us @#$%& be!!!

Being in a concert in Holland or Germany is certainly not the same as being in a concert in Milan, buenos aires or Barcelona...
There might be so many stones fans in these countries, but guys, for the way you enjoy a show didn´t seem to me be that way as i were there...I´m not going to show any pics as "proof" to show how boring must be for the stones playing for such audiences (you should have seen micks face last tour as they did berlin), i mean, the only real "interaction" they really get is at the end of the song when the people cheers, they do that very good...of course, you´ve got the tired woos woos in brown sugar (not even spectacular, kind of aisled cases) or sympathy, but still, people over there, just seem to enjoy the concerts someother way (somehow they are there not see the stones not to "be part of the show") than in southern countries do...

I want to get to the concerts of the stones as much as possible, but, well, certainly not in amd´am, really, people over there is tooooo "overwhelming"... sing along and you might get unfriendly looks or any fker might come to you and tell you: "we´re here to listen to the stones, not you", oops, sorry, so, if you are the active type who likes singing along, jumping and like showing your love for the stones this way, spare your time and go somewhere else...
And yes, there were different people in different concerts who said something like that... In B.A. you might get stange looks if you´re not singing along like: "do you know what are you doing here? or just came cause of your girlfriend"
All that related to the MSG...It might be a historic place for concerts, but with such audiences, no thanks, i have seen places like that with such pictures for allmost all along the songs, ok, not, at the end of the show the people start standing (many people in europe don´t do it on the field cause they can´t, but give them a chance... on the other hand, they stand but don´t do more than the people who are sitting, klapping at the end of the song? that can everyone make from their comfortable seats).

Well, if i am wrong, anyway, great that you can call "the best concert" something that was a great show -the band-, but a concert is build from artist and audience, i had thought.

this dude is an idiot. i was in the 6th row, and no one sat the whole night, except maybe for one of keith's tunes. and, if i was sittin' in the back of MSG or wherever that pic was taken, i might have a more difficult time connecting with the immediate energy of what was happening down on stage. anyway, it was a great show, and a good crowd. was it the same as a football stadium in Sao Paolo? Of course not. Crowds behave differently in different parts of the world. Ever been to a show in Tokyo??

and as i stated above i never saw 1 ass in a seat last nite!

I hate seated shows. Saw the Stones at Bercy in 2003 and I didn't enjoy the show as if I was standing. I only buy FOS tickets since.

Hello Stones Junkies,

Dead poet here. Ok it was my first Stones show at the Garden (2nd show ever, saw Cream there last October). Man, anybody who said the crowd was dead is crazy. I was sitting in section 316 (and even lost 150 bucks on a counterfeit ticket but not even that got me down!) I only sat down once and that was for "This place is empty" which was terrific tonight! Best ballad of the night along with As Tears Go By. When I was waiting in line for a beer the boys busted out "Ain't too proud to beg". I and several other happy revelers started singing and dancing and getty silly with the song. This chick behind me started grabbing me and things got a little nasty albeit for one minute. As soon as my Heineken's were poured *poof!* I was gone and racing back to my place in section 316. These fans are no slouches! And there were plenty of women who were swishing around and looking mighty fine.

A great job for all! Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. After the show I went by BB Kings and saw Keith's daughter get in with her friends. Bernard Fowler passed me on the way down the stairs. But I didn't stay...It was 2am and I had to get home.

Cheers Stones fans of the world!

From the photo, it looks to me as if EVERYONE is standing.I was at the Garden last night, everyone was very into the show. Until you have seen The Stones at Madison Square Garden, please don't tell us about the crowd reaction. On Wed.Keith said the Garden is like home, & on Fri. Mick said it was their favorite place to play. Come on over the next time they play here, it will be something you will never forget.

Well.... is the picture lying ??

On Wed. Night we got widespread reports of all the lard-asses at MSG... 90% of one guy's section was sitting down, plus many sitters right on the floor of what was supposed to be such a "roof rocking" concert.

Great... we have reviewers reports of 90% of their sections sitting down, widespread sitting on floor seats... now you have a photo of it...

I'm not saying that a 55-year-old CPA can't have a great time sitting in their seat...

The REAL POINT is for all those Ronnie Haters, Chuck Haters, Darryl Haters, ad nauseum that think half the band should be replaced so that the shows can start rocking like they used to in the early 70's...

With an audience like this you could replace the entire band and you wouldn't have one more person out of their seat dancing.

WRONG... I got a bug about the Ronnie etc Haters who think that the stones can "revitalize" by replacing half the band and changing the sound mix and changing the setlist, etc...

With a sitting audience like that AND PICTURES DONT LIE, SORRY TO ALL OF YOU WHO SAW EVERYONE STANDING ALL NIGHT LONG, THEY WEREN'T SO GET OVER IT...

With an audience like that you can replace the whole band, it wouldn't make a dimes worth of difference, they wouldn't be rocking out one bit more.

The entire crowd was on its feet throughout the whole DC show, with the PARTIAL exception of Keith's set.

How can you tell that most of this crowd is sitting?!
