Cosensus: Replace Miss You

All of the other "replace" and "get rid of" posts notwithstanding, there seems to be consensus that Miss You should be replaced. Agreed?

I like Miss You. But I agree that in concert, as they perform it now, it sounds a little corny (saw Montreal on Tuesday).
What I think should be a great tune to replace it with, in that specific spot where the main stage leads to the B-stage, is Gimme Shelter.
Has all the excitement of a true classic, and its intro lends itself well to nice guitar add-lib-ing, etc.

it's not going anywhere - it perfectly fits the bill for where the "cruise control Stones" are at on stage these days.

I like it as a vehicle for Bobby's solo...remember the Voodoo show in New Orleans?

But I know they can hook him up in another song.

...and BS and Satisfaction, too.

Oh yes. I am fed up with this song. Stones have a lot of great rock songs to play
before this one, which I am perfectly aware of the fact that it drew a lot of fans to them.

It's not going anywhere. I'm sure that the song was timed for their drive out to B-Stage land.

They should rework their set in some ways.
4 songs before the first new one are way too much.
Begin the gig with:
1. Start Me Up
2 . She's So Cold or Shattered or Sparks Will Fly
Then introduce the first new one:
3. Rough Justice
Then make them go absolutely nuts with:
4. Paint It Black
Then funky or bluesy:
5. Rain Fall Down or Back Of My Hand
Then slow:
6. e.g. As Tears Go By
Then up-tempo again:
7. Drivin' Too Fast, All Down The Line or so
Then a gigantic warhorse:
8. Gimmie Shelter or Midnight Rambler (@#$%& the cover)
The Keef's set:
9. This Place Is Empty
10. Little T&A (rehearsed in Toronto)
And then roll into the crowd with a blistering, weaving, screamin':
11. Satisfaction
12. Oh No, Not You Again
13. Get Off of My Cloud (though I think Sweet Virginia or Wild Horses would be alsogreat here)
Return to the main stage as usual:
14. Honky Tonk Women
Throw in this again:
15. Out Of Control
16. Sympathy For The Devil
And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, surprise them with something really unexpected:
17. Shine A Light (powerful soul-tune, sounds good and breaks the usual row of warhorses, Bitch, Heartbreaker, Under My Thumb and Beast Of Burden also come to mind)
18. Street Fighting Man (that's the 70s, yeah!)
Then the encores (well known, but not always expected):
19. Love Is Strong (also frequently played: YCAGWYW, Ruby Tuesday, Miss You short and with harp and Salt Of The Earth)
And, of course:
20. Jumpin' Jack Flash

They should throw in sometimes:
Hang Fire
Little T&A
Sparks Will Fly
Salt Of The Earth
Love Is Strong (so cool)
Shine A Light
Connection
Play With Fire
Under My Thumb
Memory Motel
Miss You short and with harp
Brand New Car
I Got The Blues
Shine A Light
Soul Survivor

They shoul always avoid:
Night Time
Get Up Stand Up
Tumblin' Dice
Brown Sugar (hey, they havent played GS or SFM so far)
YGMR

Keep Miss You and drop Tumbling Dice.

i can't picture major apocalyptic works during the b-stage transitions, or any of the seriously hot sweaty stuff. the transitions are basically nonserious moments, meant to include at a lot of interaction with the crowd on the way. maybe IORR could work in place of Miss You, but really i reckon the Stones have their reasons of which reason knows nothing. (what pitch does the b-stage mechanism emit?)

Agreed, get rid of it. It is the most worn out song of several worn out songs they play.

You can add me to the list of people that won't miss Miss You as well! Maybe insert another tune from the Some Girls album like Some Girls. But move that one up in the set list or hey, just keep it on the B-stage. So many possibilities. smiling smiley

I never loved "Miss You", I don't like all the disco crap.

Its worn & overplayed every tour. God Mick must absolutley love this tune. Goota be in his Top 5-7 since he plays it always. Bury it please. Did not dislike but forcing me to more & more.

Miss You sounds great this tour. Its not going anywhere. Most of the crowd really likes it. And its the type of song that survive any technical problems while they are far above their techs. But Petco Park from my perspective totally lit up when they played this song.

exactly. Its position in the show basically ensures that its there for any show that has a b-stage

the whole b-stage concept has been raped and defiled on this tour. remember the glory days of '97 when we'd get tunes like Crazy Mama, Let it Bleed, the Last time and LITTLE QUEENIE!? Now we get perfunctory run-thru's of HTW and Miss You. sigh.

(knowing they won't)......replace it with another miss.....Amanda Jones..........Miss You has been run so far into the ground it's not funny

I don't mind it. But if you are going to replace it, don't do Rocks Off. I mean we've heard that one quite a bit ( a lot on the Lix tour and and a few times on this one). I'd go with Start Me Up or Street Fighting Man.

Greg,
I thought the same exact two songs would work great going to the B stage. Plus, those unmistakable riffs would get the crowd going after Keith's mini set.

My personal preference would be to have Mick come back after Keith's solo in Happy, have them duet like in the old days, and then an extended ending of Happy as the band moves out to the B-Stage. Then they could add one old R&B number on the B-Stage.

Dump Miss You, Tumbling Dice, Rain Fall Down, This Place Is Empty,Shattered, YGMR and replace with Coming Down Again, Gimme Shelter, One Hit, Stray Cat Blues, Shes A Rainbow, Winter.

Let's be realistic and constructive: we need to replace Miss You with a similar musical vehicle for the B-stage extension purpose. Something that has an intro that's itself "extendable", and at the same time it NEEDS to be a warhorse of some sort at this point of the show for the tension to build up...

I still think Out of Time would be the show stopper

I like Hann's set list idea. If we're talking "fantasy land" I would go with soemthing like this.

1) Respectable
2) Whip Comes Down
3) Star Star
4) Waiting on a Friend
5) Sweet Black Angel
6) Under my thumb
7) I Think I'm Going Mad
8) Indian Girl
* The lights go out and Ronnie Wood moves over to Bass
9) Time Waits for No One (guess who shows up)
10) Gimmie SHelter (w/ MT and Lisa Fischer)
11) Cant You Hear Me Knocking
12) Silver Train
13) YCACWYW
14) Bye Bye Johnnie
15) Sympathy
16) Honky Tonk Women
17) Sway
18) Shine a Light
* Ronnie comes back over (MT Stays)
19) LONG LONG Version of Midnight Rambler

Encores
JJ Flash (MT- stuttering guitar)
