The Pipes of Pan at Jajouka

Anybody actually got this or heard it?

Apart from the wacky track titles, such as "Your eyes are like a cup of tea" - is there anything vaguely good about this album?

I love it. It;s ancient Moroccan ritual music, very hard percussion & endlessly droning rhaitas (piercing oboe type instruments - they keep it up for many minutes thanks to expertise in circular breathing). Trance music, too, but not like the latter day ambient stuff. Some of it grows so intense you'd think there was some natural cataclysm happening, a flood or great hurricane, a million shrieking muslims & those relentless drums & horns....Not rock & roll, but just as loud. BTW the track titles were not on my original '71 LP on Rolling Stones records, (unless someone left them out ofmy used copy bought 25 years ago) or label, but added to the 1996 Point Music CD - which is also missing the original, superior cover art.

I have seen one time the Jajouka band live. It was in a summer festival in Spain in 1999. Up a hill, on the top of an old castle - Quite exciting.

The album is well worth checking out.The original album comes in several slightly different sleeves. Its increasing in value all the time.I managed to pick up a mint original copy for 60 pounds a few years back.

I also made the trip to Jajouka about 8 years ago,and stayed over with the musicians. The leader is a guy called Bachir Attar. Some of the original guys were still alive back then and remembered playing with BJ.

I sent a report plus photos to BV at the time. One day I hope he prints it.
