I think Macca's was the biggest surprise on the plus side; Neil's was the biggest surprise on the disappointment side.

In no particular order and off the top of my head...

Lucinda Williams – Live At The Fillmore
Son Volt – Okemah and the Melody Of Riot
Rolling Stones – A BIGGER BANG
Bob Dylan – No Direction Home
Paul McCartney – Chaos & Creation
Ryan Adams – Jacksonville City Nights
Wilco – Kicking Television
Bright Eyes – Wide awake its Morning
The White Stripes – Get Behind Me Satan
Bruuce - Devils & Dust

I am sure I'm forgetting something! I was a little disappointed in Neil Young's CD as well. Very good, but disappointing in the context of his whole catalog (insert IMO disclaimer here!).

well, the hype was great (as it was for ABB and Chaos) - and with how good Harvest Moon was, I was just expecting something of that caliber. it's not a bad album, though.

Pistolero came out in '99. Great album, though, and highly underated.

I guess I agree with the general sense of disappointment around "Prairie Wind," but maybe in a slightly different way. I was very underwhelmed with "Harvest Moon"--and certainly relative to his solo versions of those songs. The record just sounded so processed...always preferred the "Unplugged" album and even "Silver & Gold." I think "S&G" is a far better effort than was appreciated at the time.

The one I liked a lot on "PW" was "He Was The King." Goofy, witty and heartfelt all at once. Vintage Neil.

In relation to Pistolero by Frank Black, I think it never came out in Europe, or mayeb it was quickly deleted,Cooking Vinyl only released it in 2005, thats why I never saw it before. Franks the greatest!

The new Madonna CD has some really great dance tunes on it.... so it's in my top 10.

Also thought red white and crue is worthwhile, from Motley Crue, but not earth shattering...

Fact is, 2005 sucks for BOTH music and movies.
