Firstly, NO NEED to apologise for a Taylor post.

Secondly, I'm sure you'll enjoy the show, good onya.

Thirdly, a small review would be nice, (perhaps under the title ' Mick Taylor (is an) IS).

You are probably a very lucky bastard - cos he'll probably do one or two from Exile. Rarely does them in UK.

And if it's your first time your are a very lucky B anyway.

Thank you for the set list. And regards to you other guys who were there. I don´t know how you look like, otherwise I had said hello to you. A really great evening. Shake your hips was absolutely fantastic, a killer version. I think the concert got better and better during the evening, pity just that the set was a little short. On the other hand each number was quite long.

I guess Stonethobo youre trying to be ironic. But actually, by being one of the first ordering a table at Fasching we got FOS tickets. No kidding! 3 meters from Mick T. And in all with dinner it cost us more (me and my wife) than seeing the Stones on a stadium as late as Licks tour. But no complaint! Because it was great, really a great evening! And finally I bought his album Stones Throw, which they sold at the place. It´s difficult to find, I´ve been looking for it.

On Sunday they play small Gnesta. only 60 km from Stockholm. I don´t think I have the time to go there. But who knows.

Great, mago. Nice to hear you had your fun front of stage. I think the Stones should also think about a FOS section with tables and dinner served...smiling smiley

Isn´t it strange that Taylor seems to play 80% Stones stuff from 69-72 after leaving the Stones in ´74 because he said he got bored musically and wanted to go in another direction? But ok, I don´t want to start another discussion about that.

Seems his setlist is becoming more and more "stonish" as time passes by.

To stonethobo and wahwahwoody

I think it´s great if Taylor would play a lot of Stones mucic, since that´s really great music as we all agree about. However it´s more complicated than that. Stop Breaking Down and Ventilator Blues are cowritten by Taylor-Jagger-Richards according to the information on the record, which probably means they were mainly done by Taylor. Theyn are his babies. For Can´t you hear me knocking Taylor demanded a credit, but was never acknowledged. Hip Shake is an old blues number done by Slim Harpo.

No Expectations is from BB and I think it´s written by Jagger-Richards. But it seems that Taylor keeps to certain Stones tracks not too connected with Jagger-Richards as songwriters.

Taylor did Ventilator Blues already last year, also at Fasching. Great version. The Stones rehearsed V.B. before the Licks Tour, but according to Mick Jagger they didn´t succeed very well with it.

And how many songs does Taylor usually play at his shows?

The songs are the skeletons on which he hangs his musical muscle and skin. Ultimately, the performance depends on where he takes the song. His YGTM is hardly the '69 or '70s version and during the solo parts often owes as much to It Hurts Me To as YGTM.

As for "bored musically", he now decides what he wants to play, rather than being another cog in the Jagger Richards machine. Also, he gets to sing, and he does not need to deal with a singer chopping off his solo, with another guitarist deciding where the solo goes or when Taylor can solo, etc.

Whatever attempts J-R may have made to appropriate songs without credit, SBD is a Robert Johnson tune that was redone by Sonny Boy Williamson, which seems to have heavily influenced the Stones' version.

Pfff, he played for two hours minus break.
Many looong looong versions....

And, as Erik already has pointed out, a prominent vibrato.
Wentus, the flyin & rockin Finns are a nice framework
(even though I must admit I missed Jagger & the others around Taylor,
during this my first taylor-concert... )

looks like a fantastic show based on setlist. VB is something relatively new to his repetoire. 11 songs is more than normal - remember these are long, drawn-out versions. and he has completely re-done NE...wonderfully.

@Smokey: Some good points which make me understand what Mick Taylor is about these days. Thanks.

Six out of 11 of the songs he played are Stones songs ... which proves the point that being in the Stones was by far the highlight of his musical career. He hasn't done anything nearly as good either before or since. At least the Stones perform 20% new material. Looks like Taylor's percentage is zero.
