A while back it was suggested that a thread should be started which lists all the extended versions, alternates, instrumentals and remixes that have been officially released by the Stones. Well, here's a start on the ones I either have or have heard about, whether they be found on CD, vinyl, MP3, cassette, through word of mouth, or elsewhere (I'm discussing studio versions only here, and I'm generally ignoring several "cut" or "edited" versions of the standards):

Cheers!!

I think I have 0 of these, except for the long "She Was Hot." But that wasn't officially released was it? Just taped off the promo sent to a couple of radio stations?

Yeah, true enough. It is official in the sense that a longer version exists on the "Rewind" film of videos, though (but not the same version as that radio copy). I may be mistaken on a few of these other mixes, whether they be official or not. Still, it's nice to know they exist someplace!

Off the top of my head, I know you're missing the 2002 remix of Miss You that was on the Don't Stop single and isn't there a different mix of Jump On Top Of Me? I seem to recall it may have been on the Pret A Porter soundtrack compilation.

Your concept is very strange, I don't really get it:

> Before They Make Me Run (Promo Mix) - - ??

This was not officially released as the name of the mix says. It was only a promotional release.

> Dance (Instrumental) - - 4:40

This is no official release either.

> Emotional Rescue (Long version) - - 7:05
> Emotional Rescue (Extended Intro) - - ??

Also not officially released. There is only one official version and it's the one on the album, length 5:39

> Miss You (IV, Long Version) - - 8:35

It's also called the "dance mix" nowadays.

> Rain Fall Down - Radio Edit - - 4:04

I thought you weren't including edits?

> She Was Hot (Long Version) - - 6:48

Never officially released.

> Summer Romance (Long Version) - - 3:52

Never officially released.

> Undercover Of The Night (Extended Cheeky Mix by
> Chris Kimsey & The Glimmer Twins) - - 6:22

Also known as the "long version".

I have most of them. I almost never listen to them. I'm happy I'm no REAL completist. The real bootleg stuff is much more exciting than most of these "mixes". In my opinion the true decline and fall of the Rolling Stones began when they started releasing mixes (i. e. in 1978).

Why didn't you include some of the older songs like

- Poison ivy I
- Poison ivy II
- Fortune teller I
- Fortune teller II
- Time is on my side I [organ intro]
- Time is on my side II [gguitar intro]
- Everybody needs somebody to love I
- Everybody needs somebody to love II
- The under assistant West Coast promotion man I
- The under assistant West Coast promotion man II

At least these were real alternate takes recorded by the original Rolling Stones not just mixes by external people who are cutting, editing and looping the original tracks, often even adding their own Bullshit.

You missed at least:- in no particular order -
Winning Ugly (New York Mix) 06:59
She Was Hot (Video Rewind version) - an official release?
Rock & A Hard Place (Oh Oh Bonus Beats Mix) 06:55
Rock & A Hard Place (Michael Brauer Mix) 07:05
Sexdrive (Dirty Hands Mix) 04:42
You Got Me Rocking (Trance Mix) 05:00
Out Of Tears (Bob Clearmountain remix edit) 04:12
Anybody Seen My Baby (No Biz edit) 04:00 (on US promo)
Anybody Seen My Baby (Phil Jones remix) 04:26 - [on 'Saint Of Me UK single]
Saint Of Me (Todd Terry Tee's Freeze Dub) 07:45
Saint Of Me (Todd Terry Dub #2)
Out Of Control (Bi Polar Outer version) 05:09 (promo)

I think the 'Too Much Blood' 12 minute version is 'The Main Vocal Mix' aka 'The Long Dance Version' combined with 'The Short Dance Version' 03:58.

Are promos unofficial? - to some extent they have been released into the public domain - a grey area.

The "dance mix" of Miss You on Rarities is a minute shorter than Miss You (IV, Long Version). I noticed a slight difference in the solos toward the end of the dance mix.

Thanks for all the feedback and knowledge, everyone. It looks like I have indeed missed quite a few tracks an have also included a few tracks I shouldn't have, but that's one of the reasons behind discussing this topic. I must agree that many of the remixes aren't as interesting as some of the real alternate takes and as such I don't listen to them very often. But it's still cool to know what's actually out there, particularly for you completists out there.

As for "Miss You" and "Jump On Top Of Me", I wasn't sure if each of those versions were the same as one another or if there were sliht variances. I do agree now that after again listening to "Miss You" on the Rarities collection, it does differ somewhat from the long versions to be found both on the "Don't Stop" single and the "Flashpoint + Collectibles" issue. Interesting, to say the least.

Thanks again!

Most of the techno remixes are unlistenable.

It's interesting how they've fine tuned
Out of Control and Saint of me, in the remixes
and live versions, almost like the development
of the songs has been an ongoing process.

I'll take it a step further and suggest that no real Stones fan has ever given a crap about any remixed Stones song.

It is so exciting to track down a CD single with one, two or three, previously unreleased songs or live versions and it is so depressing to look at the back of a single and see two or three "Remixes" of the same song. Why do they do this?

Let's face it, Don't Stop was a boring, cookie cutter, wrote it in his sleep, pop rock ditty. Why on earth would anybody suppose that a disco DJ would crank up a "New Rock Remix" of it? Got to imagine that would pretty much clear the dance floor.

I agree, in most cases the re-mixes or whatever they call it, are totally unlistenable.
But I like to collect them all, so I suppose I´m no real Stonesfan winking smiley.
