for beating Uruguay after penaltys.

So this seems to be the second time that the "Aussies" are going to the
football World Cup..( by the way..first time was in germany, too...
in 1974, what a coincidence)

Welcome Australia in Germany 2006.
after having bad luck the last 2 qualifiers you realy deserved it.

C u next summer in Cologne.

P.S.
Tonight we will know which of the 8 remaining countrys will get one of the final 4 tickets to germany.

Great game!!!!
They showed the game in Holland because Guus Hiddink is the Aussies coach. This afternoon if Trinidad and Tobago qualifies for the world cup Holland will have for coaches in Germany next year!!! Marco van Basten for Holland, Dick Advocaat for South Korea, Guus Hiddink for the Aussies and Leo Beenhakker for Trinidad and Tobago!!!

Cheers,
Wuudy

It was brilliant, we're a sports mad country, Australian Rules Football, Cricket, Rugby. Soccer has taken a while to get a foothold here, my Aussie born wife can't stand it, I try to explain the tactics, the set up, etc. but she just doesn't see it. But even she was glued to the radio tonight. It wasn't broadcast on free tv but you could hear the stadium was packed & right behind our team. Whether we'll do any good in Germany is another matter, for now we're celebrating.

Pity the Aussies didnt qualify in the last couple of tournaments when their team was probably stronger

still..well done and good luck in Germany '06

But Gazza - it seems like the coach has got the Australian team playing arguably "better" !!

I'm surprised that some of you guys from other countries took an interest....

thats all that counts I suppose. Good to hear it. I was thinking more of the Venables-era team that was fancied to do well in the finals (France '98 I think) but were unlucky to lose to Iran in the play offs

Isn't this really off topic? I couldn't care less than about who's playing football and who doesn't.

just 3 days ago the TV channel EUROSPORT aired an 98 worldcup match between Argentina vs. England.
Among the English fans you could see Sir Mick jagger himself who was supporting his team like an ordinary hardcorefan...he was clapping and shouting and praying during the penalty shootout.
Mick watched that game while the Stones were touring Babylon in europe...
they just had a day off.
They ( the Stones) were so much in the worldcup stuff that Keith said in an interview: " If you ask Ronnie "How are you" he answers: 2:0"

To be serious....of course it IS a bit off topic, BUT:
The wold cup 2006 is a very special event...like a Stones world tour is.
Most of the fans on this board are somehow interested in what is going on next summer in germany....so are the Stones themselfes...and I am sure we will get some pictures and reports about Stones & worldcup next summer.

That`s why it seems okey to post a thread about that football worldcup theme from time to time...if it won`t become too much.
Hope the nonfootball fans on this site can accept that so far.

Most of the fans on this board are somehow interested in what is going on about beavers also... so are the Stones themselves... and I am sure we will get some pictures and reports about Stones & beavers next summer.

Still beavers were banned from this board. They were degraded as being NOT EVEN off-topic. How come?

I think the Stones are much more driven by and interested in beavers than they are in football. Big bv should go thru his policies now real soon.

I would also like to say congrats to Aussie Joseph Hachem who won the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas this year. He outlasted over 5,600 other players and captured the first place braclet along with 7.5 Million Dollars. Well done.

why a bracelet?

Its like a football or baseball championship ring that you can wear to show off to the public. But in the poker world you get a gold bracelet instead of a ring.

I guess World Cup + Stones Gigs in Germany will have even more impact on this board
when the tour dates for europe have been anounced.
