Hi,
just want to let you know that I am happy like a child knowing that within
1 week I will have the chance to buy the new ABB dvd special edition.

Some of u may call it just another fan rip of by the Stones...

I do not see it like that....it is more a special gift to all the hardcore fans
like you and me.
When my info is right, the dvd contains a kind of documentary about "making A Bigger Bang"....and 2 NEW songs...
Yeah man !!! that is what I am looking for.

I'll have to wait and see if the two new songs come out on CD as well, maybe as a B-side to the 3rd single or so, because I don't have a DVD player. And neither do I have a TV set, since there's not much to miss out on TV these days anymore.

Good news for y'all there:

"The digital version of "A BIGGER BANG" currently available for legitimate download will also be offered in an expanded form, with only the two new audio tracks added, and none of the video content."

they are wanna rip us off! they should have given us the opportunity at the 1st date of realease. the songs were already recorded at this time, definitely. making ABB must be the same documentation they´ve already showed on german tv

"A special gift" is by definition something you give away for free

I'd be enthusiastic about this release if the documentary is different from the one that has been shown in various Tv stations in recent weeks. I hope I'm wrong, but I imagine it's the same one

and the DVD should have been released at the same time as the release of "A Bigger Bang" as an optional special package. To release it two or three months later, meaning you have to buy the original album all over again just to get a couple of new songs IS a "fan rip off" aimed at artificially increasing sales by getting you to buy the same album twice, regardless of how you choose to look at it

This is why I was waiting to buy the album instead of buying it when it came out. This is capitalism after all!

a *gift* is something you give away for free.
this is a *special* gift. :E

speaking of which, did you notice that the fan club has announced that they're sending out the "special fan club DVD" to the platinumb members this month?
(that's "platinumb" as in "i don't even feel the pain no more".)
i asked if it has anything in common with the ABB DVD and they told me they don't think so. i am looking forward either way. :E

Yeah. But really it's only looney toons like you and me that's gonna buy it. And we have the option not to, so it's not a rip-off to me. It would be like saying that a package with GYYYO and the "making of ..." DVD (If such a package occured) was a rip-off.

Dont agree. What were we supposed to do - wait 3 months just in case they re-release the album as a special package with a bonus DVD?

How can you seriously say its not a rip off when there was nothing to prevent this extra material being released officially on September 5th?

Other acts (Springsteen, Neil Young, U2) all released their latest albums with special limited editions with bonus DVD footage at the same time as the 'regular' release - THAT is an example of giving you a choice or an option.

The Stones have a different approach entirely - they actually penalise their core fanbase (who rushed to buy their album when it came out) for their loyalty

Gazza,

Don't you think its complicated to place this "rip-off" tact all on the Stones given what I'm sure could be a difficult to understand multi-layered and possibly very inflexible commercial arrangement relative to their agency? How do we know exactly what lattitude Mick and co have with this particular component of their marketability? Don't get me wrong, i hate this BS, later releasing same material (gouging going by someone for sure), but as a diehard I know I'll be in line for the purchase.

If you hang fire and don't buy it immediately it'll be really cheap within a few months. I've seen live licks for £3.99!

In a word - no

sorry..I'm not convinced of that in the slightest. The Stones have the final say in how their material is packaged and released.

Me too. Thats the problem!

1. No one is forcing you to buy it. Shut up and don't buy it and you won't feel ripped off. Some of us will gladly plunk down the cash and feel we got our money's worth. Don't buy it if you think it's a rip off. Plain and simple.

2. Don't blame the Stones. THIS IS COMMON PRACTICE IN THE INDUSRTY these days. The album's been out a couple months already, they're going to put out a bonus edition, like the major labels do with so many titles these days. So what? As a collector, I welcome it. I'm not a cheapskate. Another few bucks for some new songs and a DVD? Bring it on.

3. I don't blame the labels for trying to recoup their losses in this manner after they've signed all these artists to lucrative contracts and then so many people turn around and download the albums for free. This is a good way for the label to profit on their investment. If you don't like it that's fine. But it makes all the sense in the world for them to do it.

Just another thing for people to bitch about.

I wonder how many copies of the special edition they will sell? That's how we will know how many real die hard fans there are. 300,000 or so have bought ABB in America (can't remember the number for Europe), so how many will they sell of the special editon? 50,000 to 75,000, maybe?

I personally am glad to have the option of buying both new releases. I don't feel ripped off. I figure I download enough free concerts by the band that I don't mind kicking a few bucks their way. They can put it on a pile with the rest of their millions. Mick will buy a new hat and put the rest into mutual funds.

Gazza,

Everyday since its release (actually one week before it was officially released) one can listen to ABB on RS.com; that's not a ripoff, that's a gift. Moreover, there's software that allows one to rip audio streams; hence, one could even choose to record the ABB tracks from RS.com and listen to them anywhere, burn them on to CD's, transfer them to portable music players, etc, all for nothing. And the Stones (or their handlers) would be aware of this possibility (software). So again, no rip off? Further, one can buy the album by the individual song, or as a complete album in most European countries and North America, so you don't even have to buy or listen to tracks that you don't like (as you've heard them on RS.com), you need only buy the tracks that you want/ like.

So how is this release a rip off? I just don't get it. Music has never been more accessible, more test-driven, and less of a rip-off than it is now and ABB provides a great example of that fact, IMO.
