One of the best unreleased song the Stones did....IMO

Funky, grovy, the guitars, the singing it is all good.

I couldn't agree more. One of, if not the best unreleased song the Stones never put out.

I think I understand why though. To me, it seems like the lyrics are simply not developed enough. The singing seems sort of like an improvised working melody, with the intention that Mick would get back to them at some point later and come up with more substantial words.

With a title and chorus line saying "Criss Cross Man/Mind" this simply does not pass the standard of the Stones. Can anyone explain to me what this line means exactly?

Instrumentaly, however, it is great! Again, one of the best.

The correct title is "Criss Cross Mind" (the line 'givin' me a criss cross man' makes no sense)

Re; the meaning of the expression "Criss Cross"...

Have you ever seen the film "Throw Momma From The Train" with Danny DeVito and Billy Crystal? DeVito hates his mother and tries to get Crystal to kill her for him, and in exchange he pledges to kill Crystal's estranged wife. As neither of them has a motive to kill each of their victims, the theory is that they wont be suspects. That's known as a "criss cross" crime.

It sounds like Mick is just winging it during the song, making it up as he goes which is part of what makes it good IMO.

This may not work but give it a try.

There is a 5-10 second hiss error near the end of the song.....

My understanding is that this is a finished song and was pulled from GHS at the last minute in favor of Hide Your Love, and that it showed up as an official release on some Japanese movie soundtrack. This came from some bootleg's liner notes so who knows how reliable that is! Anybody got any additional info on this? Great song!

There is no excuse for the Stones never releasing this song. Great groove and a mighty fine open-G guitar by Keith.
