Stones (fans) & world cup 2006
Posted by: salar ()

Hi folks,
many Stones fans on this board are represented through "their" country during next summers FIFA football World Cup 2006 in germany.
As I know the Stones themselfes are big football fans, I ask myself if they will have a gig , while at the same night England is playing ?
Well..they did so in the past.
The WC groups and the matchtable will be drawd in december..the same time the european dates will be fixed..

Maybe some of the international Stones fans can visit some WC matches of their country in germany, while watching Stones gigs in europe at the same time.

Yesterdays qualifier made clear that we could be pleased to say
" Hello and Welcome in Germany 2006 " to:
our Dutch fellows,( Oranje owen and Huup Holland)
our British fans, ( here we go, here we go, here we go)
the Sweds...and maybe the Vikings as well( though they are still fighting)
the Italian stallions ( forza Italia)
the Frenchmen ( mercy Zidou)
the Portugese
the polnish fans ( remember 74 ?!)
the Ukraine,
the 2 balkanys from Serbia and Kroatia
...
and now to oversea.
I say Hi to:
the southamerican Titans:
Brasil (Brasiuuuuu)
& Argentina ( famos Adelante argentinos)
Ecuador ( again after 2002)
Paraguay Hi to Santa Cruz & Valdez
The Japanese (Ariggato) and the Southkoreans are also welcome, as well as
the Oriental fraction from
Saudi Arabia and the Iranians
Say Hi to: the Mexicans & the Costa Ricans

Another Welcome to germany 2006 goes to
the USA ( you may call it soccer, but the world and the Stones themselfes call it as it is..playing ball with your foot...FOOTBALL.)

Welcome to the Africans from:
tunesia
Togo
Ghana
Angola
Ivorycoast
Hey...this seems to be a new generation of nations from the black continent.
What happened to Senegal, the Nigerian eagles, the Kameroon lions or the Southafrican bafa-bafana....they are all OUT....well, that`s life.

So that makes 27 out of 32 countrys.
Still hopes for: bahrain or trinidad&Tobago
Further hopes for: Uruguay or Australia
and still hope for 3 europeans out of the following 6
Spain,Turkey, and Chechoslowakia or Swuisse,Norway or Slovenia.

This seems to be a great summer 2006 !!!

Watching worldcupgames and then going to Stones gigs and/or the other way around.
This makes me remember 1998.
During the european leg of the Bridges to Babylon tour.
The heat of Werchter in belgium..while watching Holland vs. belgium on the stagescreen on a horrible hot afternoon.
Never forget the night at the Amsterdam Arena, while Holland vs. Yugoslavia
was playing and the whole stadium was emotionaly divided by watching the Stones on stage, ans HEARING radio to follow their Dutch team.

Or do you remeber the match England vs. Argentina..the Stones had a day off and Mick himself went to the stadium in St.Etienne to support the British team.
It was fun to watch him praying among the ordinary british fans during the penalty shootout...England lost although..poor mick.

Or while I was standing in the line in the afternoon( it must have been the second Amsertdam gig and I was pendling between the que and the small Arena bar where they showed germany vs. mexico.
It was another great memory for ME, cause that was the day I met our stones fellow, which you all know under the name "TOO TOUGH" on this board,
for the first time.
we seemed to be the only 2 germans among all the dutch fellows...
"you asked me to read my " der Spiegel"..remember, TOO TOUGH ?!"

Or the final Amsterdam show...before the encore, they showed the 2nd goal from Dennis Bergkamp on the giant Babylon stage screen with the original comment from the durtch TV..the whole stadium went nuts while Keith playd the intro of Brown Sugar at the same time.
Oh man...so much memories are overhelming me...let`s hope we will get similar emotions next summer.

Stones and the World Cup...this seems to be a kind of neverending story.
my first Stones gig was in July 4th 82...
Stones in Cologne....the same time Brasil was thrown out by the italians.
I was so happy to watch the Stones first time in my live....and so sad, hearing my favorite team brasil was beaten out of the cup.

Or in 1990....the Stones even paid tribute to the Worldcup by adding 2 footballs to the 2 inflatables during HTW...what where the names of those 2 inflatable women again ? Angie and...forgot the other one.
Does someone remember where the Stones did play, while England lost the semifinals by penalty shootout against long time rival germany ??

Anyway...c u guys next summer...

Yeah, the hottest tickets in 2006 are for the "Weltmeisterschaft" and the Rolling Stones. What a summer.

I really don't care about football.

Where do you get it that the Stones are such big fans. Ronnie is, of course, but I wouldn't have thought Keef would care that much.

Of course, everyone supports their country in international matches but if your not really into football - well, I know what I'd rather do out of going to see the Rolling Stones or going to see England playing in the Wolrd Cup final! To be honest, I get bored by watching men kicking a ball around (unless it's Rod and Ron and they're playing rock n roll at the same time...)

Salar

"our British fans, ( here we go, here we go, here we go)"

its not the British that have qualified mate. it's the ENGLISH!

Britain is not a country and i doubt our cousins in Wales, Scotland & Ireland will be happy to be classed as 'British' during the world cup. they'll all be sticking pins in voodoo dolls of the English team as usual whilst slowly turning green with envy. being English, we're used to their nonsense by now and can only encourage it. its a good laugh

sadly, they'll all be elsewhere weeding their gardens whilst we all enjoy a summer of football, beer & rock n roll yawning smiley)

I hope Spain finally gets into the world Cup, although we don't really deserve it because of our playing.

But, what kind of World Cup would you have without Spain getting kicked in the ass in quarter-finals???

[There'll be no wedding today...]

Or what he did in 1974! (That was mean...sorry).

I like the Dutch football and the fans, really. Would have
been bad without them.

Nope.you qualified and good luck to you. I hope you do well.
But I dare say I got a bigger kick out of our 1-0 against England last month than you'll probably get out of either qualifying for the finals or playing in it next summer

Don't forget that Canada's football team may be at the World Cup final, too.

If it can find some tickets to see whoever's playing.

Hockey, however, now that's another matter.

my fault....how could I forget...SORRY.

Now the English team just needs to get rid of coach Ericson, than they will have the chance to make the Big deal...it would be exactly 40 years after the Wembley 66 victory...Ericson has that kind of defesive italian mentality...cattenacio like...control the game...no risks...just keep the zero.
That does not suite to English football...they have to move forward from minute one till the end....and man..they have such a good team...they maybe did not realized it yet .
Anyway...we´ll see next summer.

Sorry again...just wrote it by hearing..never saw it written
Okey..Hup Holland and Oranje boven then !

Enthusiasm ?
Well....there is nothing I love with the same fanatical, enthusiastical hardcorelike, than my love and passion for
a) watching & hearing & talking & reading about the Rolling Stones and
b) watching & talking & reading & playing(used to) about football.

Charlie is (supports Tottenham), Mick is (although more of a cricket fan) and if you want to include Bill Wyman, he certainly is (Crystal Palace fan - as is Ronnie)

Keith is the only member of the band who isnt known to be a big fan. Maybe he's been living in the US for too long!

Sweden will take it this time. Zlatan's gonna be the number one in the world.
But I hope that the tour dates are fixed after the group matches are drawn, that will take place in December.

Peter, lol, I was there too in Werchter 1998. Only thing I remember is the weather and the football game on the screen. Funny somehow. Other gigs I remember performance stuff, but maybe Werchter was just too hot...

I hope the Stones Play in the new Allianz Arena in Munich. The best Stadium in the World. I think they are play in Gelsenkirchen and Cologne too, but the Fifa World Cup is in the Summer ...
