I'm sure it's already been discussed in here on more than a few occassions, but can some of you elaborate on why they didn't do an ER tour. I've never heard any reasons why they didn't.

Maybe because they refuse to play 6/10 of the album in concert?

It was an every three year cycle since 66 to 69, 72, 75, 78...even then it probably took a lot of time to get it together. (Without the net and even faxes and FedEx it probably took a lot longer to arrange one)

They were probably planning a big tour for Tattoo You.

there was tlak of the Stones touring China back in 1980. I don't think they could get visas. It was much harder to get into China 25 years ago.

There was not a 3 year cycle in place. It was only a 3 year cycle for playing in North America, since they toured in 66,67,69,70,71,72,73,75,76 and 78. They could have done a European tour in 1980 for Emotional Rescue, in the way that they toured in Europe for Between The Buttons, Goats Head Soup and Black And Blue, but not in North America.

"They could have done a European tour in 1980 for Emotional Rescue, "

Perhaps they were embarrassed to tour for that marginal an effort. Esspecially on the heels of Some Girls.
