"Thru & Thru" is a "new" release

A lot of people cant seem to grasp the concept of the word 'rarities'. Its supposed to contain hard to find officially released material - not outtakes.

Virgin obviously cant grasp it either as it contains 3 songs currently available on albums

I think I liked the bonus Collectables disc that
came with the deluxe Flashpoint package better.
There even seems to be some overlap. Oh well,
at least we'll now we'll have official cd
versions of Let It Rock and
Lonely Nights.

Yeah, that's nice. But I wonder why "Think I'm Going Mad" isn't included.

I also wonder why none of the Voodoo b-sides were included, which I think are superior to the SW outtakes. Is the DVD w/ ABB coming out that same week?

Where are the single versions from Sway and All Down The Line?!
The long promo version of Emotional Rescue?
Exile On Main Street Blues would have been nice to!
Or the promo mix from Before They Make Me Run?

Why didn't they thought about putting these on the CD?

The only nice rarity here seems to be Through The Lonely Nights.

I would like to know where they finaly found the original tape of this track as it was supposed to be disapeared?

someone posted in a previous discussion on this subject that when Flashpoint Collectibles came out he read that the reason for the omission of this song was that they had supposedly lost the master tape

I guess it hasnt turned up yet!

Cook Cook Blues '89
The Storm '94
Gimmie Shelter '96
All Down The Line '95
Live With Me '95
So Young '94
Miss You (long version) '78/02
I Go Wild (Scott Litt mix) '95

Ok, again, are the rarities album & the ABB w/ dvd (including the 2 new songs etc) coming out the same time?
ALSO, was the alternate "Sway" used on the '68 - 71 singles box?

I wonder if that is a studio version of Mannish Boy. It doesn't say that it is live, and if it was the LYL version then it wouldn't be rare.

Anybody got any info on when a studio version of Mannish Boy might have been recorded?

theres no need to differentiate between a "studio" and "live" version of Mannish Boy because there only is one released version - ie, the live version

Its never been recorded in the studio. So its the El Mocambo version from LYL

I am not aware of a studio recording of MB either, but why would an album track from an album that is currently available be considered a "rarity"? Especially when all of the other tracks on this "rarities" album were previously only available as b-sides, 12 inch mixes, or as rarities on other compilations.

It just doesn't make sense. I'm hoping it is something different than the El Macombo/LYL version. Otherwise there is no point for its inclusion.

Was the version of "Mannish Boy" on Sucking In The Seventies a different edit or mix? If so, it could be that version since a few other tracks from SITS are included. Maybe that is what makes it "rare". If so, pretty lame.

I'm ok with releasing studio B sides as rarities. I'm not so sure about the live stuff. But well. I will just ask who needs these damned remixes? "If I was a dancer" and the mutilated "Mannish boy" are no rarities at all.

Sounds like SUCKING IN THE 00s to me. Seems like they just owe another album to Virgin. No doubt I will buy that shit. But let's be honest - this sounds like a @#$%& RIP-OFF!

I hope at least the price for this lousy collection will be reasonable.

Here's another track I'd love to see get an official CD release: the extended mix (actually, there are 2 of them: London and NY, I believe) of One Hit To The Body, which to date I believe has only been made available on vinyl (extended 45 single). I have the vinyl copy (the cover art to this record depicts some prehistoric cave-like drawings), but I have yet to even find this on a bootleg CD. A rarity indeed.

Mack Jigger and others....

Would anyone give me more info. about the Wild Horses/Sway 45. Did the original have a picture sleeve. I know the later us pressing had a cover (http://cgi.ebay.com/Rolling-Stones-Beat-7er-Wild-Horses-Excellent-No-Ep_W0QQitemZ4781870317QQcategoryZ58675QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting)

Is the 45 version of Sway in mono? Or is it a different mix? I have tons of Stones boots on cd and I'm wondering if I have this already. If the 45 version of "Sway" is anything like the 45 version of "All down the line", man, I have got to hear it.

Perhaps there is a UK or French 45 release of above record which has a picture sleeve?

Who is going to buy this crap? Fans have it already and new fans as some people think only like warhorses, so whats the purpose then for this release? For fans to buy and put up on the shelf?

my point exactly, about Virgin not understanding the definition of a 'rarity'

You forgot "Wild Horses", which appears to be the same version thats on "Stripped". "If I Was A Dancer" appears on an album that was reissued on CD a few months ago. Again, not exactly hard to find.

"Virgin" and "sense" are two words that dont belong in the same sentence. There is also ample playing time on that disc for at least another 3-4 songs. Yet there are numerous exclusions plus 3 songs included which arent by any stretch of the imagination 'rarities'

I'm hoping it is

Mannish Boy was only played live 3 times by the Stones in their entire history prior to the Licks tour. the two El Mocambo shows in '77 and the Stu Tribute in '86 - which wasnt recorded by their crew. So, its almost 100% certain its the LYL version

Charles

US 7" of Wild Horses RS 19101 no picture sleeve but b-side Sway has slightly different lead and backing vocals and clocks in at 3.35.

Can be found on either of The Black Box sets or Time Trip Vol2

Hello Charles,

The single I have also has just a plane record company sleeve. The single version of Sway is definitely worth getting! Like Rockman said the vocals and guitars are different. It's sounds more rough and edgy than the album version. You can get it also on A Shot Of Salvation, wich is still one of my favourite boots.

I wonder who made this losy compilation. As I said before, I would rather have All Down The Line 7", Sway 7" and the rare promo mix of Before They Make Me Run than a 12" mix of Mixed Emotions or that terrible remix of Harlem Shuffle. These are not a rarities to me!
