We are now 20 shows into the A Bigger Bang tour, excluding the Toronto warm up concert, so I decided to compare the songs played on this tour to the Songs played at the same point on the Bridges tour, since it was the most recent tour behind a new studio album.

Excluding the 2 warm up concerts and the short show in Port Chester, the 20th show on the Bridges tour was Los Angeles night 1.

So far, there have been 41 different songs played on the current tour, which is pretty similar to 1997. At this point on that tour, they had played 39 different songs in the 20 regular tour shows, plus 2 additional songs in warm up concerts.

On that tour they went on to play around 60 different songs through 1998 and a total of 76 songs by June 1999.

Following are lists of the songs played so far in 2005 and the songs played at this point in 1997. There are 17 songs in common between the 2 tours.

Bridges appears to unearth a few more real gems (Little Queenie, Crazy Mama, Factory Girl, She's a Rainbow), but with Sway and Sweet Virginia alone, the ABB tour is stacking up nicely. And of course that could do more gems on Licks because as you point out, they had NO new album to back up (only played Don't Stop...which is now a gem that ought to be played at some point!)

"but with Sway and Sweet Virginia alone, the ABB tour is stacking up nicely."

Each has only been played once and word is "Sway" left much of the audience indifferent at best.

"Don't Stop" is now a gem?

The bar must now be pretty low.

It was pretty well-received on the Licks tour. I wouldn't want it played every night...actually, now that I think of it...I wouildn't want to be at the one show where they played it as a rarity...therefore, you're right...I retract it! smiling smiley

If they ever play Don't Stop again,I think it will be in a country that didn't get a Licks Tour concert such as Mexico etc..

no, no...it's a good tune, but there are 50 others on front of it for rarities I'd prefer to hear.

Thanks for the comparison; it's interesting... can't quite characterize the difference. Somehow the Bridges gems seem more appealing, but I think that's just a matter of perspective. There were 2 more pre-'68 tracks then. Wish they'd go back to that era more often.

Didn't they do "Not Fade Away" regularly on a recent tour?

Only if you consider 1994/95 recent.

I think they should bring "Don't stop" back in place of say IORR or YCAGWYW.
Get some more post 70s stuff in there.

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

I do consider that recent. Steel Wheels forward is all one era to me.

"Don't Stop" ended up being a pretty good live number, IMO. Good 3-guitar interplay. I don't see how it would substitute for the songs you mention, though, which are very different, even from each other.
