What If ABB Included Don't Stop Instead of Your Least Favorite ABB Tune

Would ABB be a better album? Or worse?

I say it'd be better, and I don't particularly like Don't Stop.

Actually, I think I'd like Don't Stop a lot more in the context of ABB. So here's an experiment, swap in DS into the playlist with ABB minus your least favorite tune, what happens to Don't Stop?

in my version of the album (A Better Bang) SSMC opens followed by DS - and it works very, very nicely. DS is the "single" that's missing sorely on ABB.

Yeah, that's funny. That's what I was thinking, just watching Flicks DS again after listening to DS. That was the single.

'Don't Stop' is not worth replacing any of the songs on 'A Bigger Bang'.

Why dropping a song of. Perhaps they should add it in on the next reissue.
For this album is closed and perfect in a way. I missed such an album from any band by the way for a very long time.

There are no 'forgettable' songs on ABB.

I ain't stupid, I'm just guitarded.

To me DS is a great song but not that great to be in on ABB!
If they should take the opportunity to rerecord DS it might not
function still. Cause DS is not the kind of song that would take
it's spot on ABB.

What I mean is that the sound of DS just fits in on 40L and trying to
change the sound into the ABB one wouldn't give DS a fair chance.

So let DS be on 40L forever and let ABB be ABB forever too, think it'll
works out best that way!

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

Yeah it is. Swop Don't Stop for Biggest Mistake and the record would be better (Biggest Mistake being the only downright boring track).

in a head to head battle, don't stop vs biggest mistake or streets of love

there would be no winner. just one hell of a shitstorm

>> in my version of the album (A Better Bang) SSMC opens followed by DS <<

okay, i admit it: i was intrigued by this the first time you posted about it, StonesTod; it went nicely with my early puzzlement over the order of the tracks on ABB, especially the way they're divided up into sides on the vinyl version. so i started fooling around with it myself - adding the 4 new 40Licks tracks instead of the two numbers on ABB that i was feeling less moved by than the others. after trying about 14 different versions i concluded that ABB is superb the way it is. there's something off-center about it that keeps me off guard, and that's wonderfully powerful.
but anyway: do you feel like posting the full track list of your "rearrangement"?

Don't stop works in the context of filler..good for 40 licks..but bad for ABB;
I look at each release as a period in the band's life and DS fits on 40 licks,
but is out of place on ABB. DS was safe and didn't take chances, unlike the
stuff on ABB..while I like DS, it would be out of sorts on ABB.

I don't agree that the new songs on "Forty Licks" are of minor quality. Particularly "Keys to Your Love" is a nice ballad, "Don't stop" rocks. "A Bigger Bang" fullfills the promise of the new songs on "Forty Licks".

Hey - don't knock it til you tried it! Like I said, it works perfectly next to SSMC - and the "sound" differences are not noticeable at all. Shoulda been held back for ABB in retrospect.

A BETTER BANG

1. She Saw Me Coming
2. Don't Stop (great one/two opening)
3. Let Me Down Slow
4. Rain Fall Down
5. Keys to Your Love (works beautifully after RFD)
6. Biggest Mistake
7. Losing My Touch (so much better than TPIE)
8. ONNYA
9. Laugh, I Nearly Died
10. Sweet NeoCon
11. Look What the Cat Dragged In
12. Driving Too Fast
13. Infamy
14. Back of My Hand (much better ending)

Putting BOMH at the end gives the album a much more proper ending, IMO, and it avoids the awkward placement of this gem in the middle of the album.

This gives a me chance to hear my fave 3 40L songs in a new context and I get to avoid the 5 ABB songs I just don't care to listen to: RJ, SOL, IWTL, TPIE and DB.

It would be worse - Don't stop is boring.

My ideal ABB CD song selection and order

1: She Saw Me Coming
2: Look What the cat drag in
3: Rain Fall Down
4: Dangerous Beauty
5: Let me down slow
6: Streets of love
7: It wont take long
8: ONNNYA
9: Laugh
10: Back of my hand
11: RJ

I will never understand the contempt for Don't Stop.......it's a great Rolling Stones song in the Sticky Fingers tradition.

I'd like to see Don't stop on the setlists.

Explain? (I think the song's ok, it was much better live in fact, but I don't hear anything remotely from Sticky Fingers in it.)

Yeah, KEWL! and how about, instead of Rough Justice, put in All Down the Line! And replace Streets of Love with Wild Horses, and Biggest Mistake with Torn & Frayed! You could take out It Wont Take Long and Dangerous Beauty and put in a couple of those b-sides from Voodoo Lounge while your at it! Yeah!! That's the ticket!! A much Better Bang!!!!

yawn.

Maybe a little too much time on your hands??

I love ABB but Back if my Hand bores the socks off me. I have never had the patience to listen to it in its entirety.

In place of "Sweet Neo Con", it would only enhance an already terrific album.

There's one song on ABB I can't stand, Streets of Love, and four that I think are good but not great: Biggest Mistake, Infamy, Let Me Down Slow and Driving Too Fast. I really love the other 11 songs on ABB. If Don't Stop were on ABB, I would put it in the "good but not great category" and leave it off my edited version of ABB. Don't Stop is nothing special IMO.

My A Bigger Bang edit:

1. Rough Justice
2. Back of My Hand
3. It Won't Take Long
4. Rain Fall Down
5. Oh No, Not You Again
6. Laugh, I Nearly Died
7. Look What The Cat Dragged In
8. She Saw Me Coming
9. Sweet Neo Con
10. Dangerous Beauty
11. This Place Is Empty

In a while I'll post my ABB review. I have it home on computer. But I'm waiting to do it because I want the album to really feel part of the discography. I can't make a decent review if I haven't passed the point where I hear it 24/7.
When I do post it in some time, I'd really like to hear YOUR opinion on it StonesTod.
