I thought I knew my Stones but darned if I know of this track. I am downloading the Columbus show (torturously slowly), so I guess I'll hear it sometime assuming I can get the hang of burning FLAC files to CD!! Can someone 'give me the lowdown' on this number?
Howdy Baboon how's it goin?.....have ya digested those dinasour steaks yet? Things are tough down here so I just had a glass of water and tightened my belt!!
Awrighty over ´ere, ool´ soul brother. Winters wearing ya out, Rocko? Here summer´s almost gone and way beyond that. Freezing last nite. Ney; havent begun with the reindeer meat yet. But we ate some Yugoslavian sziripszikszik-kind-of-sausage & made my digestive system collapse: but it tasted heavenly. Moose to come. No sh*t.
But is it true ya into green McGarden & stuff? Im getting fatter & fatter, gotta quit beer (temporarily).

I don't know why the Stones feel obligated to do songs like Mr. Pitiful, Get Up Stand Up, Nighttime ..., Can't Get Next to You, Love Train. I read that either Chuck or Mick said once that it's fun for the band on stage, so I guess that's a valid reason. Personally I would much rather hear a real Stones song instead.
I bet you´re not even like Otis, cheerful ol´ BOBM? Stoppin Keith (& Mick) from doin Otis covers is like stoppin the Sun from shinin or the bird from singing. Always this bashin on covers.
I love (Stones doin) covers! I take any soul-, blues or Chucksters cover any day by the Stones before a half weary warhorse.
Well Baboon Bro, I like the song fine when Otis does it. It's just that there are so many songs the Stones released that they have not yet done live, that I would prefer to hear one of those. They don't need to do Mr. Pitiful, when they could choose Hitch Hike, or Mercy, Mercy instead. (those are covers too, but to me they belong to the Stones).
Cant Turn You Loose SUCKED. Seriously. That thing blew last time around and was a disgrace to the Stones. Sounded like one of those typical blues coverbands, not the Stones. Horns and all that. I despised/hated/pissed on that tune last tour. Very glad I missed it on my turn.
HOWEVER, Mr. Pitiful was fantastic! Really suprised me. Love Train is also a pretty fun tune. Mr. Pitiful is one of those tunes that I'll flip to on the disc just to hear. I'll skip past YGMR to hear the Sway/ADTL/MrPitiful segment every time. You also gotta love the versions of She's So Cold and Rough Justice. They were ON...
Maybe CTYL sucked where YOU heard it, but it was uplifting exciting at the 2nd Boston show show, and it absolutely rocked at Muenchen Circus Krone to name just a few of the shows I saw from the Licks tour. The Stones cover Otis Redding with great respect and affection and they get the job done. The Stones are white soul brothers as witnessed by all the great covers they have done over their long career. It's in their blood.
In a recent Chuck Levelle radio interview he spoke of The Stones playing Mr Pitiful...said that he and his wife are great freinds and live not far from Otis' widow Zelma. Chuck went on to say Mick loves Otis' body of work and is always keen to play one of his numbers.
The problem with CTYL is that SO MANY OTHER BANDS do it SO MUCH BETTER...including the original band (MG's). So, what's the point, is what you have to ask when a band with as high a profile can't do it any better than that....

My guess is . . . tradition.
Before they were the World's Greatest Rock'n'roll Band they were the world's greatest cover band.

24c; thats good! Here close to the arctic circle (well, fairly close, in a global perspective) we expect some 18c here in our last days of mock summer (it´s called Indian summer); which is pretty good too. A couple of years ago we had snow these days of the year, even some week before. I´m trying to get hold of the Otis tune; I´ll tell you when I have it. Found some other Otis goodies.
