Posted by: redrum ()

Hey....

Can anyone tell me what Mick Taylor has been up yo this year? I'd love to see him in a club, (if he'd tour US again).

I read and heard reports that he was thinking about recording a new studio, solo album.....any update is appreciated!

Regards,

redrum

He tends to lay low when the Stones are on tour. When they sleep, he comes out to play. It's better for him when he is "the only game in town".

That's not true, tatters. Your brain's been splattered. He played the 100 Club inbetween two of the STones London gigs in 2003.

When i last looked at his site, (mentioned above by ChrisM), the news was that he was taking time out.

How has he been doing financially since leaving the stones?

Taylor has been "perpetually recording" a new album for about 5 years now - don't hold your breath.

I would suspect not great, he got frustrated with the whole industry and I would
suspect still has some ill feelings regarding the song credits he did not get.
I read a quote from him and he said he played on the greatest records and got
nothing as far as studio wages and I assume got 1/5 of the live touring inflows
from 69/70/71/72/73.

Most of us here probably have some permanent job and career and steady income to
support a family. A traveling bluesman its hard to pay your bills.

He played in Finland with a local blues band earlier this year and will play with them again later in the year.

He also played at the Heckstall Smith Tribute and the Chicago Blues Festival with Mayall.

It's been a very light year for him.

Smokey & all:

Thanks! So, M. Taylor will be back in Finland later this year? Is that confirmed?? What date(s)?

I'm catching up on a lot of Mick T's records....buying "A Stones Throw" this week. I have had "Stranger in this Town" for years and think its a great album.

Taylor's version of JJF on Stranger in this town is great. Also one of his greatest wah wah solos on stranger in this town. He has some lyrical contents
Hide your love and Loving Cup within the song.

H- Dog - should be able to pick it up on Amazon.com

PS - I had Taylor sign mine at a "signing" out here in LA when the CD was released. There was about 20 people in line - should have been more!!!

MLC- saw it on Amazon for almost $50. I guess that is because its an import. I may have to suck it up and buy it.

It turns up on eBay and half.com regularly for less if you have patience.

From what I recall, I would not buy it for JJF though.

"Stranger In This Town" (1990)--I believe its out of print. Try ebay, Amazon.com or outofprint.com.

I believe that "Coastin' Home" and "Live at 14 Below" are the same album (from 1995). Then, there is the Carla Olson album(s), and "A Stones Throw" (1998), which has apparently 3 differnt covers: UK, USA, Japan. I think tracks and mixing may differ slightly....of course, Mick guests on many, many artists records....

imagine if jagger used Taylor on his solo records - like on Evening Gown or
Dont Tear Me up .

Coastin Home is with a pick up band. In my view, it is not nearly as good as Stranger in This Town, with his regular band.

Other than his solo studio albums, his live recording with Carla Olson is probably his best officially released work post-Stones. It is out of print and there were reports of a reissuance, but that too is probably best found on eBay or half.com, or even amazon. gemm also has these, but is more pricey.

For his second studio album, A Stones Throw, the Japanese and second US issue have some extra tracks, such as a live Red House.

Good question!!

What if Jagger used Mick Taylor on guitar, Bill Wyman on bass, Mick Avory on drums....called it "Rolling Stones Version 2"? This would only be a working band when the *real* Rolling Stones are having a year off! Just a stupid thought...

redrum, dont forget Dick Taylor!

Not such a stupid thought in a way. Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman might help complement Mick's creative studio talents and his very capable musicianship.

Not fair to call it RS however, but i bet it would swing like very swingy thing........I know, like a swing infact, or even like a Wyman - (the oldest swinger in town).

yes taylor proved during his stay with the stones he helped jagger with the
melody and singing. jagger at best sings around the notes but taylor got him
to stretch out - WRAP MY COAT AROUND YOU WOMEN

The band would be :"3 Mick's and a Bill", or if they had Dick Taylor on bass, "
3 Micks, and a Dick..." (jokes will follow...)

They will indeed!

3 Micks, A Willy and A Dick.

The Dicky Willy Band.

Wee Billy and the Dicky Mickies Band.

Dicky Willy and the Poor Micks.

Dicky Willy, two Poor Micks and one extremely rich Mick.

Rich Mick and his Micky Dick Billy Band.
