Wandering Spirit

Had to take a break from A Bigger Bang after playing it approx. 1,000 times in a row. (In an hour I will start working on 1,001.) In the meantime I'm playing something I haven't listened to in a long time, Jagger's solo album from '93, Wandering Spirit. I'd forgotten how good this is. Really like this one, as opposed to his other solo albums. Anybody else like this one?

This record is a masterpiece.
Mick has never sung like this on any other album.
His voice was strong and well-posed.
I would have liked to hear him singing like this on ABB.
Especially on Let Me Slow Down on which his voice is too smooth.

I love this disc. One of my all time favorites by any musician. Wandering Spirit and Talk is Cheap could have been 2 of the Stones greatest albums, if they were Stones albums. I think Mick and Keith both felt they had something to prove and came up very big.

Jimmy Rip's playing in the title track is phenominal.

Funny, I had just pulled Wandering Spirit off the shelf so I could add it to my iPod. Yes, it's an incredibly strong album. Mick's other solo albums have highlights, and are generally underrated, but Wandering Spirit is strong from start to finish. I don't recall Keith dismissing this one as Wandering Dogshit, so maybe even he appreciates it.

I actually love this album. It's one of my favourites in my cd collection. The songs that I really like on it are Wired All Night, Angel In My Heart and Evening Gown. Put Me In The Trash also rocks. All in all, a very good solo effort by Mr. Jagger!

Put wandering Spirit and Talk Is cheap together and I'll have a Stones album probably even better than A Bigger Bang. Too Bad they didn't give those songs to the Stones!

Better than any stones-album. Better than anything from '90-s rock era.

Wandering Spirit ranks as one of the top 10 stones related albums ever. Evening Gown is perhaps the best country ballad Mick every wrote. Great chorus, genuine lyrics. The title track isn't to shabby either, is it? This album is classic Mick.

"Hang On To Me Tonight," "Evening Gown," "Handsome Molly" (what a cool offbeat choice) and, of course, the Sun Records tribute of the title track--all excellent.

"Evening Gown" was done as a cover by Alejandro Escovedo (who also does a superb "Sway") and, better yet, will appear on Jerry Lee Lewis's forthcoming record as a duet with Jagger.

Wish they would hurry up and release Jerry Lee's Old Glory...it's been in the can for ages. Maybe their waiting to ride the wave of Stones tour/Bigger Bangs release.

as good as anything the Stones did, excluding EOMS, of course.

The type of masterpiece you can put away for year and is every bit as good after that.
