Jagger/Richards is on the new Macca album?
Posted by: Jimmie ()

According to reliable sources Jagger plays tambourine on two tracks of McCartneys upcoming album and Keith is playing "spoon on wineglasses".
I´m very sceptical of this info, does anyone here has any info?

Every instrument on the new McCartney album is played by Paul himself.
It's as easy as that.

Except for tambourine on two tracks, spoon on wineglasses and nose-harp, which were played by some old farts from London, who happened to be around some time about a quarter to three. These guys have to be everywhere! Just joking!

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

Not so - not at least according to the information on Macca's site. Most instruments...not all.

Oh... but that was the information given a couple of weeks ago. He did everything himself even flugelhorn (is this also english?)... only the production... he produced with another guy.

It´s a great album. Macca and Stones both release their best albums for decades in September. It´s like the 60s. Let´s enjoy it, this might not happen again.

Agree on the stones. Best album for decades (since undercover).
But McCartney released Flaming Pie in 1997. I doubt if this album will be better. I heard the three songs on his site and they sound very good... but Flaming Pie is a masterpiece IMHO.

I like some songs on Flaming Pie very much, but the production (Jeff Lynne) did them no good. Also: McCartney sometimes in the past produced just to quickly. A little bit more work on arrangements would have been great.
Just compare "Jenny Wren" from the new album with "Great Day" from Flaming Pie. "Great Day" was probably recorded in ten minutes, maybe it´s the second or third take. "Jenny Wren" is also a quite simple song, but has some very nice chord progressions and arrangements - I think this shows that Macca has put more work into "Backyard".
He said in interviews that the producer Nigel Godrich (Radiohead etc.) sometimes insisted that Macca kept working on songs (nobody except maybe George Martin in the 60s) dared to tell him something like this before. I think that makes "Backyard" a special album. It´s not just something that Macca recorded in a quick rush, but maybe with some sweat.

I think the same goes for Bigger Bang. The Stones did not give some weaker tracks to various producers to dress them up (like Might As Well Get Juiced on Bridges), but really worked on the songs this time. Of course: There is no competition. In their league the only competition is their own past stuff. Maybe that´s the reason why Mick and Keith worked so close together this time.

That's exactly what I don't want: too many arrangements. Flaming Pïe was right on for me. A lot of his great compositions are damaged by siruppy arrangements. I think he realises that now and doesn't do that as fanatic as he used to.

Yes. From the tracks I´ve heard so far (4 of them) this album seems to be quite super.

BowieStone, I am no english, maybe I picked the wrong word with "arrangement". I don´t mean adding more and more instruments and making it "siruppy", I mean working out bridges, chord progressions and all these song elements that turn a simple song of verse and refrain into a masterpiece - think of most of the Beatles stuff, the Beatles even worked out special beginnings and endings of their songs.

Well, Keiths contribution could be real, though it must be meant as a joke. Remember, Keith and Paul met in the carribean when they were both on holiday - that´s also when the Uncut cover was shot.
