Awesome topic. Too many to choose from, and the Stray Cat Blues one was an amazing call. Here's a few more that haven't been mentioned yet:

"You're the kind of person
You meet at certain dismal dull affairs."

"Feeling so tired, can't understand it
Just had a fortnight's sleep"

"Worked in bars and sideshows along the twilight zone
Only a crowd can make you feel so alone" (love this one)

And of course:
"Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away"

Gimme Shelter. Urgency, impending danger, desperation and utter compulsion to hear what comes next.

Take me to the station
And put me on a train
I've got no expectations
To pass through here again

the Stones always seemed to know the importance of that first line - the bait that gets you in - that "psst" from a doorway that guides you to the next chamber - amazing craftsmanship to lead so strong on so many tunes...

Mother's Little Helper for sure! And don't forget the new numbers like...

One time you were my baby chicken
Now you've grown into a fox

Here you stand before me
Waiting to be kissed
You're a beauty, such a cutie
How could I resist

I was out in the city
I was out in the rain
I was feeling down-hearted
I was drinking again

I said from the first
I am the worst
kind of guy for you to be around.

I met her in a movie house, she was playin' the arcades
And posing with her hang hair down, lookin' a little bit unmade
She spoke in broken English, I replied in broken French
'Come and share my popcorn, it's not a federal offense

I musta been foolish, I musta been blind
I musta been crazy, And out of my mind
For so long

...and Sex Drive, Highwire and 100 more smiling smiley

This is indeed a very good topic because they have superb opening, lines. That one from Time Waits For No One"...wow.
And yes - "Out Of Control" - that one is so good. The "I was drinking again.." says so much about the whole feel.

Then their is the flipside to great opening lines. Like this:
Here you stand before me
Waiting to be kissed
You're a beauty, such a cutie
How could I resist

Or This:
You call yourself a Christian
I think that you're a hypocrite
You say you are a patriot
I think that you're a crock of shit

Or:

One time you were my baby chicken
Now you've grown into a fox
Once upon a time I was your little rooster
But am I just one of your cocks

I always liked this one: YEAH momma poppa told me I was crazy to stay, I was gay in New York I was fag in LA. But that song is simply smeared with great lines. Also the opener for Rough Justice. And this one by the way: Fling you out into orbit, noones gonna hear you shout. And of course one of my all time fave openers is Jjf and bs.
