Over the Years, How Many People Have DIed At Stones Concerts?

It's probably fewer than the number of people who have died at Grateful Dead shows, but I know it must be a considerable number. I was at the Dec. 2, 1997 Silverdome show when out of the corner of my eye, I saw something about the size of a person flying thru the air. "Nah", I thought. "It couldn't be." But It was.

well its less than the numbers who have died at Who shows...

the Silverdome seems to be a place to avoid for Stones gigs. Someone died there in 81 as well

a fan fell over a railing/ramp and died at the Kingdome before the Stones 10/14/81 gig.

maybe that was the one I was thinking of. I think I remember reading that 3 people croaked it at concerts on that tour. Meredith Hunter also wasnt the only person who died at Altamont

Supposedly 4 people died at Altamont including Hunter but I've never seen these other 3 named. May be just a rumour like the one from the time that 4 people were born there too.

Someone was stabbed to death at Houston in 81 as well. The guy was stabbed to death over some nachos while waiting in line outside to get in ... so the story goes.

Didn't Keith kill a guy with his guitar on stage during the 1981 tour while playing Satisfaction?

No - he struck him a couple of times to no harm. He wound up bailing him out of jail the next day.

Someone died on The B2B Tour, that Silverdome incident? But I thought there was another one too that same tour?

No, but knowing Keith's penchant for exaggeration and tall tales he probably THINKS that he did ;-)

The thing about the '97 Silverdome incident is that it happened while the Stones were onstage, during the JJF encore, in fact. One version of the story is that this guy was dancing on the railing and fell. A more likely version has him dancing down the aisle toward the railing and he couldn't put the brakes on and fell over the railing. Just imagine having this as your final thought on this earth:

"Shit. I sure didn't think I was gonna die in front of the Stones tonight."

A guy got shot to death outside Capitol Centre(DC) scalping in '81. Also, a woman was struck and killed by a car outside of Jack Kent Cooke Stadium(DC) in '97.

At Altamont the deaths are:
Meredeth Hunter who was stabbed and beaten to death by hell's angels
Two fans were plowed down with a car
Another fan drowned in water when on drugs when they fell in

hey tatters,

i was at that show as well at the silverdome in pontiac. i was sitting close to the stage on the side so i didn't know what happened until i left the show. my girlfriend at the time had a pager and was typing messages with her friend. her friend told us that this guy went splat just a few rows in front of her party. it scared the hell out of her.

there's something about this band....the silverdome was a lousy place to host a concert unless you're sitting very close then it's fine.

RollingStonesRob:

I was at Altamont. We heard exactly what you heard:

1. Meredith Hunter.

2. Two people asleep in sleeping bags run over by a car.

3. A stoned swimmer drowned.

Not to mention at least one guy in the afternoon who climbed a major scaffolding, then stood on the top and screamed in triumph while Sam Cutler tried to talk him down. Yes, he did eventually come down (at least from the scaffolding!).

Cologne 95 one about 50 year old looking older than that (and not in best shape/condition) died in the audience of a heart attack after getting stoned in the hot sun and smoking weed all day. I think he heard just three songs, then he fell together like the WTC. We first laughed about him missing the show (Hey man, you´re not 20 anymore, you better don´t drink that much or you gonna miss the show). Then security took him away. Later in the paper I read that he passed away - the age and the city he came from matched him exactly.

Who'll be the next in line?

I don't wanna go splat, but they do just about give me a heart attack!

You know her life was saved by rock & roll, yeah ROCK & ROLL

With the audiece getting older and older, deaths from natural causes may soon be commonplace at Stones concerts. I was at a Ringo Starr concert once and I swear to God I saw a guy pumping not his fist, but HIS CRUTCHES in the air! Todd Rundgren saw me laughing and gave me dirty look, like "Hey man, that's not funny!" Of course it's funny ....
