Album playback info

This took place this evening at Olympic Studios in London. Eleven tracks were played out of a possible 16 to be included on the finished CD. There is still no confirmed title, but the first single out at the end of August is "Streets Of Love", a ballad, but with a great "Ah Ah Ah Ah" hook. "Oh No! Not You Again" sounds even better on the album. Other stand out tracks were "Rain Fall Down" with some great funky guitar and some subtle electric piano (Mick?), "Laugh? I Nearly Died" which starts off a bit like "Always Suffering" but then finishes with a great gospel/handclapping singalong. "Back Of My Hand" is classic Muddy Wayers style Blues with some great harp from Mick. Keith's ballad "This Place Is Empty" is the only track with piano, I assume Chuck. Overall it's an out and out rock album with loads of guitars, very few (if any) additional musicians, about three ballads and some amazing lead vocals from Mick who is singing with incredible feeling. Can't wait until September 5!

sounds interesting - but if you heard 11 songs and 3 of them are ballads, one a gospel, and one a blues - that sounds like something more balanced than an "out and out rock album" - which is fine, by me....

Yeah, cool! So, the secrecy has loosen up now, hasnt it?
This seems to be beyond even m y wildest wishes.

thanks for the info

I notice you mention 3 songs that arent listed in the previous list.

I'm assuming that "This Place is Empty" is the same song as "This House Is Empty Without You" and that "Rain Fell Down" is the same as "Walking Alone in the Rain".

maybe "Laugh I Nearly Died" is the same as one of the other previously listed tracks too

I had a feeling when I saw the original track listing that "This place is empty"/"this house is empty" was a cert to be a Keith ballad! Is it a country song? the title sounds very Hank Williams-ish!

Yeah Gazza funny you mention Keith/Hank connection... similair thoughts but the "this house is empty" title reminded me of the George Jones' track - Things Have Gone To Pieces.

I hope jagger doesnt do any falsetto vocals on the album.

Was listening to this exciting. I mean did it grab you by the jugular, and you could tell it was classic stones?

Tell us please.

Great info CS, thanks! I'm getting really excitited now!
This could be one of the best birthday presents i had in years. The Malieveld, the Hague concert in front of 86.000 people in the poring rain on sep. 5 1998 was my best so far, i was standing first row by the catwalk, Keith's side).

Cheers,
Wuudy

I notice also that CSD mentions there were 16 songs, whereas previous listening parties mentioned 18 songs.

I assume "Neocon" is indeed one of the omitted songs, then

Thanx for the info.
And how about "Rough Justice" ?

I love it when the Stones suprise me. Making the leadoff single to a supposed rocking album be a little on the slow side is excellent IMO. This is good.
Obviously there are opposing factions in Stonescamp. Heard that She saw me Coming" for it's similarities to SMU was being considered. Ballad won. No horns, BU voices. I am SO GLAD that Bernard Folwler is not ominpresent on the album.

Thanks to Mudflap1 over on Shidoobe we have some more news.
It's about a Child Of The Moon like song, something that also the stonesvikings reported from the listening party in London. This time it comes from another source, so there seems to be some truth it it!

------------
A few weeks back, Mat got to hang with Rolling Stone Keith Richards one
evening, into the wee hours. Mat was introduced by THE ultimate Rolling
Stones insider, and was invited to L.A.'s old A&M studio where the Stones
were putting touches on their new album. A new face brought by when Sir
Mick is around is a rare opp that just doesn't happen. Keith was real nice
to Mat, and Mat got to play Keith's silver strat and an early 50s tele,
that Mat said was basically bald in color. Mat got to hear the entire new
Stones album, including tunes that won't be on it. He says it is great.
He especially loved a slow blues on it, and for fans of the late great
Brian Jones(like me), he says there was one tune that was melodically
reminiscent of Child Of The Moon : - )

It was just for the media, retail and virgin staff. The reaction was pretty positive, especially from someone from itunes who thought it was excellent.

Rough Justice rocked! It reminded me a little of Mixed Emotions, but with some great slide guitar from Ronnie!
