WHICH '72 SHOWS WILL SURFACE THIS YEAR?
Date: June 17, 2005 05:44

Your thoughts, predictions, knowledge &C. here are appreciated.

I think maybe Houston will surface, both shows. Maybe Denver or St. Louis?

aren't the Houston shows around? One of the Houston shows is surely one of the main be-booted shows.
But Denver is another matter. Far as I can recall even Colson has a hard time finding anything on the elusive Denver show.

Chelz, Houston's around only from the SB recordings from L&G and STP 7 CD set (that Schuine so boldly spoke his moine about in the buy/sell/trade forum). Any audience recordings extant are a mystery to me.

I was at the Denver Coloseum 1972 matinee show and would love to hear a soundboard of that one. My friends and I had 2 row center( still indebted to a pal who scored those...) and we were like pinching ourselves that we were there and that close. I drove out from Chicago. Mick came out with the sport coat, one either lime green or sparkly silver as I try to remember. I remember seeing MJ's makeup with the sparkles. It was so close. The crowd was pretty passive which was strange since the second day evening Chicago show I saw a few days later was so raucous. It's weird, because in my mind the Chicago show seems to have been first, but Nico's site says otherwise. Keith sure drove the band hard in those days and MJ still had the moves. The US 1969 tour will always be my favorite as the Stones had no hype to live up to except for their brilliant records. They sealed the deal as one of the alltime great live bands with that tour and 1972 was SOOOO hyped up. That was THE ticket that summer. Hot and sweaty fun and remember how the press hammered the band for charging $6.50? Bastards!

filstan, I amsure that H. colson would love to hear from you and pump your memory banks. I think those Denver shows are really considered hard to come by info with the sages. I dunno, maybe Gazza knows.

Following up on the 72 show I saw in Denver is another story worth mentioning. After the matinee show I was very high and figured why not try and sneak in for the evening concert without leaving the building? I walked all over the place and ended up finding an open door that led to a staricase. No one around so I thought maybe no one comes up here for a few hours. Walked down a corridor in the top end of the building and opened a door that opened up to a view of the arena and a walkway to some spotlights way up top. I thought I was in! I decided to just sit down on this narrow ramp and was actually up there a for a few hours just waiting it out. Only people I could see were roadies setting up the stage and some folks cleaning up after the first show. Soon fans started coming in to their seats and I began to think I had pulled it off. Foolishly though I didn't change my location and the door that I had entered from opened and out came one of the spotlight guys who called me down and said I had to leave. No sympathy for my quest at all. So I was escorted from the building after almost pulling off a freebee for the second Denver show. All I needed to do was head downstairs once people began to enter the arena. So simple. Somewhat miraculously I found my way back to a friends house in Denver from the Coloseum. Fun day with lots of strange turns. I was 19 in 1972.

All 72 shows should be taken out of the vaults.

(And with all the advance in remasters and all that shit, couldn't it be possible an upgrade on NYC 26/7 so it wouldn't sound soooooo compressed?: with all that NoNoise treatment it sounds as if you were inside a 3 by 3 square meters room with concrete walls and the band playing)

Any new SB would be great, anyway grinning smiley...

Heh MLC just because I didn't mention Taylor doesn't mean I didn't dig his playing. Cut me some slack Jack. MT was always pretty stoic up there stage left, but the guy could sure get it done. Keith and Taylor were a dynamic duo. I saw MT play last week here in Chicago at the Blues Fest and he was really great. One of the best performances I have heard from him in years. He really looked like he was having fun. He guested with Mayall and the Bluesbreakers for 5 songs. MT and Buddy Whittington traded some mean licks. Two heavyweights going at it. Mick with his Gibson and Buddy with his Fender. Would love to hear a recording of that show from last week. Hot stuff.

Hi Erwin. I have a box somewhere with ticket stubs from way back. Haven't looked at that stuff in so long that I am not sure where it would be located. Will have to ask my wife where it is. One of the many benefits of being married to a fine woman....
