News about Live 8 announced for 2nd July by Bob Geldof und Midge Ure. There are a lot of names mentioned but only one seems to be confirmed: Sting (he confirmed his performance by himself). A lot of names including the Stones and - (see Daily Terror reports) the Spice Girls (uuuuuaaah, not you again!!!).

Hope there will be a PC soon with all the details and maybe...

A mini-show of the Stones, with a really good performance would be a great teaser for the new album and the upcoming Tour!!!!!!!!

U2 confirmed their perfomance (http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/U/U2/2005/05/30/1063091.html).

Still more or less the same rumours, but anyway :

Danish state radio news just announced that Stones will take part.....

Nothing regarding Stones in todays's Daily Mirror however :

"More than 100,000 tickets for the Hyde Park gig will go on sale next Monday - available by texting a number which printed in the Mirror on that day.

Among the 16 major acts Sir Bob is expected to reveal will be Sir Paul McCartney and U2, who are due to open the London end of the event in Hyde Park with the Beatles classic Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Robbie Williams hopes to do a Queen track - ideally We Will Rock You or We Are The Champions - before performing his hit Angels.
Sting is to sing The Police classic Every Breath You Take, while Annie Lennox wants to do Why. Oasis have been in discussions about playing My Generation by The Who, who are also expected to perform.
Other big names being lined up include Outkast, Destiny's Child, Black-Eyed Peas, Linkin Park, Alicia Keys and Mary J Blige.
US rapper Eminem is due to play at the Washington concert which will be screened after the London gig.

There will be simultaneous events in France and Germany

Giant screens will be put up in squares and parks in around 20 cities and towns around Britain for those who cannot get into the concerts"

Finally this "shocking" news as a result of Live 8:

"For the first time in 35 years, the Wimbledon women's tennis final, which many fans hope 17-year-old champion Maria Sharapova will take part in, will be switched from BBC1 to BBC2"

So no tickets for people outside the UK? (just in case :-))

I suppose that "number" will be available here and everywhere within seconds...., but I'm not sure what this - "texting a number" - exactly means. The same as "quoting a number" ?

Don't know about the timing of the press conference. The BBC only reported that today (Tuesday), it "is expected to confirm line-up and ticket details. There has been speculation that free tickets will be allocated by a public lottery".

Live 8 Benefit Concert Confirmed, U2, Sting Are In
Monday May 30, 2005 @ 03:30 PM
By: ChartAttack.com Staff

U2

U2 are set to play the love child of Live Aid. The band have confirmed their appearance in the London half of Bob Geldof's benefit concert, Live 8, scheduled for July 2 in London and Philadelphia.

The Boston Globe reports U2 will perform earlier in the day so they can be in Austria for their scheduled concert that night.

Live 8 is named for the G-8 summit, taking place this year in Scotland. The summit, a meeting place for the world's leading powers, will begin only days after the benefit.

The complete lineup and possible venues are unknown at this time. Event publicist Laura Perez said they will probably be revealed Tuesday morning at press conferences in Philadelphia and London.

The only other known performer at this time is Sting. However, a Band Aid representative told Reuters that they are currently in negotiations with the Spice Girls to perform at the event.

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham's spokesman said that all five girls have contacted their former manager Simon Fuller about the possibility of reuniting.

If the Spice Girls do decide to reform, this will mark their first performance together since the group (minus Geri Haliwell, who left earlier) split up in 2001.

Concert promoter Midge Ure told NME.com that the concert event will feature "all the big names we can find."

Much like the original Live Aid event, the concert will feature a barrage of musical acts to promote social awareness and activism. The purpose of the show is to convince G8 world leaders to address the global issue of poverty, plus AIDS and tuberculosis epidemics in Africa.
