I remember paying about 50 Deutschmark, which is now 25 Euro and about 30 dollars. My father raved how I could spend so much money for "JUST A CONCERT"... These days those amounts even don´t cover the buying fee (you know, the fee the ticket seller company gets)...
I remember a newspaper writing about their 1995 tour in Germany. They made a big thing out of the fact that the black market tickets did fetch up to 200 Deutschmark (100 Euro) for some concerts ("People paying a fortune to see the Stones...blabla..."), which is the price (140 dollars) you´re happy if you get a ticket at all nowadays.
$18.50 for Van Halen, Doobie Brothers, and The Rolling Stones...Some Girls Tour! Row and seat....ha...LOL....get there when the doors open and stand for about 12 hours........ah the good old days.
My 1st Stones show in '81 - very cheap...apprx. $25...George Thoroughgood, the J. Geils Band, and some weirdo by the name of Prince (an unknown at the time) Waited at least 8 hours at the end of a mile-long line get in, and was happy when I was able to get 1/3 back of the way back in the stadium, 10 rows up the aisles. There was no more room on the floor by the time I got in, it was a free-for-all, and a human sea of bodies and madness. I felt safe back were I was...it was my first Stones concert, and the chaos was everywhere. I had a view that was forever etched in my mind, and the experience was priceless
I still consider it the best Stones show I've ever seen (but now tied with Stockholm Cirkus in '03).
times change - can bemoan all you want - but the Stones are doing EXACTLY what anyone on this board would be doing if you were in the same position - getting what the market bears. end of story.
I think its funny that David Crosby, among others, blasted the Stones in 1969 for charging $9 a ticket. That would be (5.27 * 9)=$47.43 in today's money. Anybody remember the prices for the last CSNY tour?
