good sites to download from, aside from torrent

Does anyone know of any decent places left online to download from. Rockpassion.com does a good job but I know of very few places left that contain entire recordings.

Entire live recordings arent really worth it if they're mp3 source or other similar recordings

give it a week or two. We'll have a torrent site on Rocks Off very soon devoted exclusively to the sharing of Stones recordings. Its just being finalised at the minute.

yes it is indeed !
you need to have a torrent client like Bit Torrent, then you need to have the software Flac and then Winamp to play the files.
And last but not least, a great deal of patience to download the files.
Why to do easy when you can do complicated !

I'm far from a computer geek and dont understand all the technobabble but once youve downloaded the software, its pretty easy.

You install foobar2000 to play the files. And a program like burnatonce to transfer them to CDR. Its not rocket science. Dont worry, when we get the torrent site up and running, the instructions/FAQ will take into account that a lot of people are new to this thing and it wont be too complicated.

You dont need THAT much patience. It depends on how many people are sharing the file at the time. I've downloaded shows from the current tours by Springsteen, Dylan and U2 in as little as 2 hours.

Generally you should be able to get a show in a few hours. leave our pc on when you sleep and by the time you get up..hey presto, you have a concert downloaded.

Its a great invention and a fantastic way for genuine hardcore fans to share the music for free without having to deal with bootleggers.

Its also better to share it this way than using mp3 recordings. No trader wants to trade shows with gaps between tracks for example.

Excuse a baboon, but do one need optofiber, or is it anough with (e.g.) 200 bytes/sec? I´ve tried to download, but it doesnt seem to happen anything.

do you have a broadband/DSL connection speed?

That would certainly make things easier.

I dont know what 'optofiber' is. Can someone else help our favourite baboon?

I guess with optofiber our baboon brother means something like broadband...
Like Gazza said - the speed of the Bit Torrent download depends on how many other users download the file you want. Every user who downloads a file lets other users download a part of what (s)he has already downloaded - that's the way it works. And the more users download/upload the faster it is.
200 bytes/sec is very very slow - it'd say it's normal to have at leat 100 kb/sec.

Praise the Lord. (...But when can one have some sleep?)
Seriously: When is the calmest time to download this new godspell of tehcnique?
As I said before, I havent ever succeeded. Once I think I got 3% out of the whole lot (an album or a video show) before I gave up. Is the American night time the right time? Thus morning here in Europe... Perpect timing for downloading, before lunch while maximum weight on the job... Maybe time for holiday...

I definately agree about mp3. I DESPISE compression of any kind. The only semi-tolerable compression is minidisc. Layer 3 compression is very hard to recognize and as such even DAT transfers sound wonderful off minidisc. Mp3 is basically for me to enjoy on my computer and then go find silvers of.
