Although I wouldn't have put it quite the same way, I have to agree with the sentiment! You don't go to hear a symphony or an Opera and excuse the lead singer or the string section because it was an off night after paying TOP DOLLAR!

A lot of people rag on the guitarists and I think a lot of it is justified.

The flip side of that is that Mick and Charlie a) "show up" in every respect for every gig, b) bust their (fill in the blank here ___________________) every time and carry the show on nights when Keef or RW or both take a night off.

Those two cats work hard to give us our money's worth.

I think you don't get it. You are not going to see "normal" performers performing music. You are going to see THE rolling stones. Like it or not they are a piece of rock's history and that is what makes the price. Now you might question if rock history is worth all this money, or if you are willing to pay this money only to see a piece of history, but this is a totally other matter.

keith - said the stones are a guitar band foremost - so you expect the best
and not the whole weaving and posing

Weaving and posing are oppositions, dear OpenG, not likely to be combined!

No weaving is a lame excuse keith has given to rock journalists to
explain the stones guitar sound and forgetting the whole lead vs rhythm
sterotype.Taylor showed Keith how one can just flat out play live with no posing
and how one can enrich jagger/richards compositions.

Keith was afraid Taylor was changing the stones sound to more of a blusier
sound and Keith did not like Taylor putting down stuff in the studio and he
erased Taylor's parts on IORR.And yes jagger/taylor were collaborating on songs
when keith was MIA.

Robert Plant in the current UNCUT Magazine says he never really considered
the stones an album oriented band.I thought of them as a band that made pop
hits. With Taylor they went from a band that made pop hits in the studio to
a band that could play to large audiences and that was important going into the
70's.

and MT is gone now never to come back.

btw like it or not rock album oriented rock is pretty much dead too, but I guess it is ok as long as I never hear anything like Minstrel in the Gallery or Tales from, Topographic Oceans again.

The point is that the weaving is nonexistant nowadays, but when it was real back in the late 70's early '80s it was at least as exiting as the stereotype allocation of guitar tasks during the Taylor years. It was spontaneous, raw and when they were hot you never knew what was gonna happen the next second. The taylor years are my favourite but I still haven't found an equivalent from that period to the Imagination jam from Hampton.

No weaving = posing. I subscribe to that!

Listen to RW & KR play in 78, 81, 89 and even 94......they were very interactive interms of trading licks. Go and listen.

POSING: Keith didnt start doing the exagerated crap until the giant TV screens showed up. Again, go thru your Stones video collection for proof. He was always animated, at points.....but it was subtle. Its the goddamn giant TV above him.
Watch him on songs like Monkey Man, Rambler, CYHMK,.....NO POSING, just playing so lets at least get it right. The posing is not every song, but when he does it now its exaggerated and I think its the stupid video people telling them "you gotta do something". They probably tried to tell Charlie that he should shake his ass or something.

I think Keith often cocked up Brown Sugar on the last tour because of excess posing.

Played it better on b stage with less room to fling his arms/legs about.

Toronto SARS was the pits! - STAND STILL for fu*ks sake !!!!!!!!!

It's awful to say but he's starting to look like Elton's "arthritic monkey"!
