That's rubbish ... Albums are parts of the times when they were released. So, it's complete rubbish to "collect" songs to one album, except it's a "Greatest Hits" album ...

Thanks for informing us about that.
Quite logic,your arguments...
But what about the so called "Best of..." - rubbish as well ?
Do one need an official permission to "collect" songs to one album ?

I need nothing. I only say that this thread is nonsense.
You should better call it "what's your favourite songs since 1981". That'd make sense.

thumbs up

every Stones' album is some kind of unity. instruments, players, sound, producers, engineers... it's like "Look What the Cat Dragged In", nice pop/rock song, imagine it on Beggars Banquet tongue sticking out smiley

Intro: Segment from Continental Drift (Like in 1989/1990).
1.- Don't Stop.
2.- Flip The Switch.
3.- Sparks Will Fly.
4.- Streets Of Love.
5.- The Worst.
6.- This Place Is Empty.
7.- The Storm.
8.- Break The Spell.
9.- Back Of My Hand.
10.- Out Of Control.
11.- Love Is Strong.
12.- Almost Hear You Sigh.
13.- Thru & Thru.
14.- Saint Of Me.
15.- Rough Justice.

This would be their best album ever. @#$%&, I wish I had a CD burner so I could make this CD.
And there's many others I couldn't even fit in like Mixed Emotions, Sad, Sad, Sad, New Faces, Moon Is Up, Low Down, Oh No Not You Again, Driving Too Fast, etc. etc. etc.

Hey Meise, my point is that I'm trying to turn on some people who say the Stones have been complete rubbish since 81 onto some of the cooler tracks they've done since then. I want to make a CD of these tracks and say, listen to that....they're not so bad are they?

Sorry guys but this is the best they have done since 81 and I would hardly recommend to give "Talk is cheap" a rerelease with Mick on some vocals.

Running too deep
You don't move me
Take it so hard
How I wish
Make no mistake
Wicked as it seems
Rockawhile
Locked away
Blue
Wandering Spirit
Don't tear me up
Wired all night
Hang on to me tonight
Hard Woman
Lonely without you

1. One Hit (to the Body)
2. Rough Justice
3. Flip The Switch
4. Tie You Up (The Pain Of Love)
5. Sad Sad Sad
6. All The Way Down
7. She Saw Me Coming
8. She Was Hot
9. Laugh, I Nearly Died
10. Almost Hear You Sigh
11. Out Of Tears
12. Anybody Seen My Baby?
13. You Don't Have To Mean It
14. Thief In The Night
15. How Can I Stop

Augh. There are others that I like a lot. Dangerous Beauty, I Go Wild, Moon Is Up, It Won't Take Long, Undercover Of The Night, Let Me Down Slow, Lowdown, Already Over Me, Out Of Control, Feel On Baby, Too Tight, Harlem Shuffle, Fight, Had It With You, Feel On Baby, Fancy Man Blues, Break The Spell.

I think Steel Wheels might suffer the most, even though Dirty Work is the lowest point for the Stones next to Satanic Majesties.

I think the context is interesting. Applying this kind of thought to these albums/tracks and finding what grabs you is interesting - because it makes you move past the war horses and actually think and maybe for some listen to these songs again. Are they great songs? Sure, some of them are. As great and definitive as Gimme Shelter, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Brown Sugar etc...? Why not? Maybe. Possibly. Time is a bitch. These songs haven't been around as long. Maybe to someone they are just as good. It's all just different. It's all about each album being its own, each song being its own.

i think lotsa folks would regard MIU as one of the better latter-era songs. the SB version, though, didn't do much for me....neither did most of the show, though....

Doesn't this (among a million other things, Chuck L., the boring setlists, etc etc) PRECISELY prove the band have lost their artistic compass LONG ago?

Re: Select the best 15 Stones songs since 81 for one killer album

I tried but failed to make such an album. To compensate the failure I re-post the imaginary set-list I did last year:

-----

If the Stones - and we fans - would forget their prior 1989 days, and if the band would just concentrate on the material they have done in last 19 years, we would have a really great show. There are no probaly classics, but still strong enough material to do anything if they would have their heart on it.

Of course, this is total science fiction,buuuuuuuuutttt......

Just think about the next (un)possible set list:.

1. "Rough Justice"
2. "You Got me Rocking"
3. "Flip The Switch"

Three strong rockers to start the show, and make people sweat, then a bit slowing down:

4. "Mixed Emotions" (Mick and Keith sharing the mic, the Glimmer Twin magic fills the air)
5. "Almost Hear You Sigh" (the sea of lighters on)

and now some dance numbers for Mick and the girls to enjoy:'

6. ”Don’t Stop”
8. ”Rain Fell Down”
9. "Street of Love" (sing-a-long)
10. "Out of Control" (the first highlight, ten minutes version…)

Introduction

11. ”Slipping Away” (Keith)
12. ” You Don’t Have To Mean It” (Keith)

Okay, that was Keith, now Mick back with a total surprise:

13. ”Continental Drift” (a second higlight, joujouka guys there on stage!!)

14. ”Too Tight ” (to the b-stage)
15. ”Back of My Hand” (B-stage)
16. ”Love Is Strong” (B-stage, back to A-stage)

and the final bang...

17. ”Rock a And a Hard Place”
18. ”Highwire”
19. ”Saint of Me” (huge sing-along)

20. ”Like A Rolling Stone” (encore)

Not bad, huh?

(and I even let an obvious hit number ”Anybody Seen My Baby” out…)

- Doxa

She Was Hot
Tie You Up
Pretty Beat Up
All the Way Down
One Hit (a little bit forced in that latter day MJ fashion but still o.k. as a filler)
Hold Back
Dirty Work
Sleep Tonight
Hold on to Your Hat
Break the Spell
Continental Drift
Thru and Thru
Gunface (a little bit forced in that latter day MJ fashion but still o.k. as a filler)
Might as Well Get Juiced

2 Highwire
3 Love Is Strong
4 Jump On Top Of Me
5 Moon Is Up
6 Thief In the Night
7 Almost Hear You Sigh
8 Let Me Down Slow
9 Saint Of Me
10 Break the Spell
11 Too Tight
12 Stealing My Heart
13 You Don't Have To Mean It
14 Between A Rock And A Hard Place
15 Don't Stop

It's too bad I had to leave it at 15, because the following also deserve to make the set.
But I like my selection to flow well, too. So I first made a list of songs and then let the flow decide which ones are the first 15 to make it onto the disc.
These are the songs for the overtime (in no particular order):

Sad Sad Sad
Sparks Will Fly
Brand New Car
Sweethearts Together
Out Of Control
Already Over Me
She Saw Me Coming
