I've got "The Killer Festival" on CD, but I don't know how to upload, etc.

I could burn ya a copy. Warning: I'm slow about doing this.

Thanks, Elmo, but the Killer festival is WAY inferior to the other tape floating around. AND, Brown Sugar is incomplete.

We merged two different audience tapes, PLUS the old Altamont LP (only known source from the old days with Complete Brown Sugar) and then put in the soundboard stuff where applicable, plus my friend added all the soundboard stuff from MSG, Baltimore, etc. as bonus tracks....BEST Version to date. But will let the board know, if the other tape shows up.

THe tape used by VGP for "The Killer Festival" seems to be from one source. I have a 3rd gen copy of the tape I got from a long time trader years ago and it
pretty much matches the cd except that the JJF intro is complete on the tape and theres a little more between some tracks.

Scottkeef, for the record, when you say "3rd gen copy" are you saying that it is a copy of the copy of the original tape?

Well, I guess the easiest way to describe it is M(master)-1-2-3(my copy). S my copy is two gen removed from the master.

Stones Blah
If you look on page 321 from Bill Wyman's book Rolling with the Stones you can see the blond haired "taper". He is in the top right hand corner of the pic. You can clearly see the mic in his right hand and the black and grey tape recorder in his left hand. He is not to be confused with the other blond guy with glasses at the front of the stage, with hair parted on the other side.
The dark haired recorder can be seen in same pic on page 320. The black guy in white hat is clearing a path to the large speaker being used as a monitor by the Stones. Now look on page 355 middle pic and you can now see the dark haired guy at the front with his mic and cord hanging over the speaker.
Every picture tells a story!!!!

Maybe Rockman has this scan of these pages to post so that we can all have a look at it.

not the best, but maybe helpful:

sounds like a lot of work, but interesting nevertheless...has this "assembled" version ever appeared for download on this site? if not, do you know where i could get it?

thkbeercan, which show are you thinking of? Seems like Hyde Park has been brought into this thread and made things a little confusing - well to me it has - but anyway, Erik_Snow posted a torrent-d/l-link to the latest upload of Altamont on the previous page.

Here is the version that I have. I think it is the same one as posted above. I have had this for over 2 years. Both are from the same audience source.

If you listen at the 32 second mark a guy laughs (says ha ha) and at the 37 second mark a guy says (far out) on both mine and Vancouver's. It is the same source.

Yes it's the same source as the bootleg of course, but lower generation/new transfer

Are you saying that a newer transfer of some sort was made from the original tape?

Thought I'd bring this thread back to life...

We now have another recorded source from Altamont:
The newly circulated tape from a guy working for a radio station - and was subsequently played over the radio at the time of the concert.

So maybe one of these tapers is the "original" bootleg tape, and the other the guy who worked for the radio station?

We also have the soundboard (mono) version that Chris M has posted on his website (only snippets), and the bizzare French Radio broadcast.

Anymore?

Assuming you have heard the KRON TV new report, since it's tacked onto the end of the recently discovered broadcast, it includes excerpts of a few songs. Apparently the TV news crew made their own audience tape, so that's one more source. Probably under a minute available though, and not very good sound.

Would like to know if the blonde guy with the glasses is the guy who taped the whole show. And where his tape is now.

i think the "blonde" guy with glasses is the owner of the common audience source...only because he is near the stage for at least half the show with his microphone in hand.

the recent radio broadcast has tape problem in SFTD...tape runs out near the end.

Not a happy day in Stones history it is never the less a historical event and a very good performance once things settle down....

As for boots there are two fairly recent releases.

I have this one on TARKL label and it is a surprisingly clear recording from what seems to be very close to the stage. A little thin but an enjoyable listen I think...

And then there is this one on the Godfather label which many seem to prefer

From reading the many articles posted on this list there is evidence that the remaining Maysles Brother is sitting on a complete video of the concert and an ex Grateful Dead soundman, who was recording that day, still has a complete SB recording of the show so maybe these will surface someday.....
