Review by Bob McCombs
The Stones rolled into chilly Orlando last night and heated up a crowd
of 45,000 to the boiling point! With temperatures in the 40's at
showtime it must have reminded them of some of the early shows on the
tour. On the last three tours the band has always played down here
towards the end of the tour, on the Steel Wheels and Voodoo Lounge tours
it was in late November, almost to the exact date.
This time they were
two weeks later getting down here. By the time they got here before they
were running out of gas, very lethargic. I figured we were in for the
same thing this time as I read some of the recent reviews, especially
Detroit. The saving grace for us this time was Mick Jagger, while Keith
stayed mostly in the background Mick was on fire! I guess he wanted to
stay warm but he was a nonstop ball of energy, from the first notes to
the last! Lisa Ficsher was another highlight stealing Gimme Shelter away
from Mick.
We were also treated to a scorching opening set by Santana, they played
for 45 minutes and got us ready for the main event!
