It's Only Rock'n Roll |
Mick Taylor & Wentus Blues Band played tonight 16dec. at Fashing Stockholm Sweden which is a rather small club for a couple of hundred people. Usually used for jazz concerts, but Mick played here in 1999 as well.
Wentus Blues Band which is a Finish Blues band opened up at 8.30. After one song they introduced Mick Taylor. He entered the stage and said something about that he would play a song related to a band that started out in Dartford. These are the songs they did in the order I remember 3 hours later. "Stop breaking down" the Robert Johnson song from exile was a great opening. Then he continued with "Fed up with the blues", "Losing my touch" from A Stones throw and "Ventilator blues" again exile. If I remember it right the last song before the break after 40 minutes was "Alabama" from Micks first solo album. So far there were good versions of the songs and Mick was really good during his guitar work of the songs.
After a break for about one hour Wentus Blues Band did one song on their own. Then Mick did the Albert King song "I wonder why" which he often has done live and on live records, his solo was great again. Then followed an instrumental version of "cant you hear me knocking" whiched almost knocked me out. Then he said that he should do a Bob Dylan song and hopefully should remember all the verses. "Blind Willie Mctell" which also is included on A Stones Throw was quite different from the record. In my ears he changed to Eric Claptons "Layla" for a while and he also took some verses from "all along the watchtower". Then it was just two more songs "You gotta move" from Sticky Fingers which was really great. Then a big surprise for me, one of my favourites, "No expectations" from Beggars.
The second part of the gig lasted one hour included the encore. This was my fifth Mick Taylor concert in Stockholm Sweden and I think he and the band played really well tonight.
I saw Mick Taylor at a jazzclub called Fasching here in Stockholm last night. It was a great show, much better than I expected. It was crowded, around 350 people there. Wentus Blues Band sounded very good as well.
There was a few surprises in the setlist (at least to me) and it was pure magic to hear such wonderful tunes as Ventilator Blues (I never ever thought that I would hear it live) and Cant You Hear Me Knocking.
I only wish that my Stonesfriends would have been there with me last night.
Yesterday was an evening to remember.
