As far as I know the Stones never performed live on Beat Club. It will probably be a promo. Great line up though.

The opening chords of Rain Song are the same as the opening chords to Something by The Beatles. I think Page and Plant jested that they could have written Something but The Beatles could never have written anything as complex as Rain Song.

So still no definitive answer then. I guess it must remain one of the Stones' big mysteries. If it's Trevor Lawrence - who is he? How did he get the gig?

Anyone know who the sax player is who so ignominiously stands all alone below the stage on the Top Of The Pops 1971 video. Also, was this shot without the normal Top Of The Pops audience as it would have been probably the first time a band did this?

Yeah, great album. It's dark soul though as you point out. Almost like listening to a confession from a patient on the psychiatrist's couch - only the patient happens to be one of the greatest soul singers of all time.

Any of you lot out there going? Should be a corker as they're playing an r'n'b set first and then a psych set. Only £17.50 to get in too. They usually sign stuff afterwards and it's always good to chat with Dick Taylor about the old Dartford days.

QuotescottkeefI have a boot "Keith" compilation dvd that(and I'll have to dig it out to check)I believe has some interview footage with the girl herself for a news broadcast. The DVD in question features four hours of rare footage. It kicks off with the band’s performance at the Kilburn Theatre in London on July 14th, 1974 with Rod Stewart guesting. The DVD features both the ster

Glad so many other people here also reckon Radiohead to be overrated. It really is music for bedwetters and students. They are trying for that Pink Floyd atmospheric early 70s thing but their recent music is on the whole soulless white boy rock. Teenage Fan Club on the other hand are brilliant. Grand Prix is a work of genius.

That's it for The Stones I'm afraid. I taped Knebworth 76 but that has come out already in better quality than my old tape. There's a nice Floyd from Wembley 74 on the way which betters what is out there. Working on cleaning up tapes of Zappa, Capt Beefheart, more early 70s Floyd, perhaps some Bad Company.

Sorry for the confusion guys. Erik is right. I meant Devil's Breath. Must have been that Vindaloo curry I had earlier in the evening that prompted the mis-naming.

I bought the Stones - Live In London 73 vinyl in about 74. It has a purple cover and is pretty muddy in sound quality and not the full show. Not sure if it is that one you are talking about. I haven't got it to hand so can't remember which date it was. Don't know who taped that one.

It's gotta to be Zep. Jagger is by far the better lyricist or at least was.

Actually, if it's the one I think you're referring to bassplayer 617, it's from a brilliant boot called Session Selections. It has stunningly clear alternate takes and run throughs of Marrakesh Express, Guinnevere, Black Queen, Pre-Road Downs, Wooden Ships, Lady Of The Island, Helplessly Hoping, 49 Bye Byes, Cinnamon Girl and Blackbird. Apparently it's from an upcoming 4 CD b

Interesting. I always heard it was The Who he was after - a fact borne out by Antonioni making Jeff Beck smash his guitar a la Townshend - something Beck didn't really want to do. Apparently The Who had touring commitments and The Yardbirds were the next best thing. Antonioni was trying to capture that whole mod/pop art thing which is why he came to London to shoot the film. Great movies tho

Great recollection Logie. The 73 tour was the last time the Stones ever played with such conviction and intensity with the accent firmly on the music. After that it was the beginning of the Stadium era where props such as the star stage came into play plus Billy Preston solo spots, Jagger dancing with Billy, Jagger soaring over the audience on a rope - in other words pure showbiz.
