I actually like In Through The Out Door. It's not the greatest Zeppelin record, but neither is Presence. What I particularly like about Presence is the guitars, the tone, the playing. Some of the songs I find really silly: Royal Orleans, Candy Store Rock and Hots On For Nowhere are just about the worst songs they recorded. Yet the guitar parts are great. Tea For One is my favourite. The th

Tony Iommi Somebody here knows The Godfathers? The guys of Birth, School, Work, Death? Good guitar riffs alright, I have their albums up to the mid 90s I think. The Godfathers have had different guitarists over the years but that didn't seem to matter much, riff wise so to speak. Too bad they never made it big, but the singer may have something to do with that (not very good in my opi

Quoterebelhipi Chanel did ok. I prefer Sasha. I agree. Chanel sounds mostly like Tina Turner, I think. A touch abrasive, not like Merry Clayton on the studio record.

I too thought that the '95 version of Gimme Shelter was great. However, I'm glad that Sasha doesn't put up that cringeworthy act with Mick that makes it impossible in places to watch the dvds with Lisa on them. Besides, I haven't noticed how Sasha would be a lesser vocalist than her. It's 'only' a backup singing part anyway and nothing tops the original

I started listening to The Kinks when they released their superb One For The Road live double album in 1980. I like just about every era of the band although I do think that the early to mid seventies' concept albums are somewhat hard to enjoy. My favourite couple of Kinks records are: 1. Something Else; 2. Muswell Hillbillies; 3. Give The People What They Want; 4....other mast

Is it me or do Ronnie and Keith sound like they're not getting any room to play in their usual free style? On the one hand, good for them that the band is functioning again. On the other hand, I get the feeling that this works more like the 87'/88's Mick Jagger solo shows than a Rolling Stones show. Replace the crummy guitars and voila... But it is of course hard to judge by a

I mean an airship and footage of the band where smoke goes up while the band plays. The cliche-o-meter goes to the red and beyond, here. You can't be more "Spinal Tap"-ish than this. >< I agree. QuoteAquamarine QuoteSomeGuy Works of art however, should not be propaganda for someone's political agenda. The whole point of art, though, is that there's no "should." For the record, that was precisely the edit I was thinking about right after I posted, but didn't.

I don't deny any artist having the right to entertain their political view, of course. They are perfectly free to discuss those with their friends, as I do with mine. Works of art however, should not be propaganda for someone's political agenda. I prefer, say, Honky Tonk Women to, say, Rice Krispies, to use an analogy. But, to each his own. I can separate the artist's creation

Quotebv QuoteSomeGuy This is, in my opinion, a political thread, why not close it (why start it in the first place)? This thread is very on topic, because it is about The Rolling Stones. It is not political, because it is about licensing and legal terms of using their music for the purpose of promotion or campaigns. Well ok. The thread is not political, I guess I got opinions of myself, other

QuoteDGA35 QuoteChris Fountain Did Bill Clinton pay BMI for the song "Don't Stop" (Fleetwood Mac)?? Terrible Song anyway. I don't think Fleetwood Mac had a problem with Clinton playing their song since they reunited to play at his inaugural ball in 93. I think Beto O'Rourke used Happy, btw.
