QuoteCristiano Radtke QuoteSomeGuy QuoteCristiano Radtke There's a new album by Ray Davies titled Dog Fights & Shootouts that sounds like a soundtrack for a western movie. Not 'our' Ray Davies I don't think... I think that as well. But when I click on Ray's name it directs me to his Spotify page, which is odd. Welcome to the world of algorhythms and, dare I

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteRip This peeps are getting silly here....Hackney isnt better than Some Girls or Emotional Rescue for that matter...its pretty damn good though for 80 year olds. So...people having "taste" that is different than yours is "silly"? You know what? I think that I will decide which albums I like and which ones I don't. Free advice, folks.

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteSomeGuy I think a proper tape deck and proper cassette tape can offer a pretty good sound quality. So...if I read you correctly, what you're saying is that if everything is perfect, the result is "pretty good". I don't plan on getting the Nakamichi Dragon any time soon, so I guess I'll stick with vinyl! You don't need fancy equip

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteMathijs QuoteDandelionPowderman Not sure if it's the mastering, as some songs sound excellent (Short And Curlies, Fingerprint File) and others sound like they're wrapped in wool or cardboard (If You Can't Rock Me, Dance Little Sister). That points to the mixing, imo. Keith has stated this in an interview, that the album is too long for the vinyl fo

QuoteMathijs QuoteBlueranger The first time they played it safe all over. Not one single note on the album points forward. There are decent songs, but they are alarmingly uneven and this is were they took it one step further in creating 'Stones-by-numbers' tracks - something that started on Goats Head Soup. On this record, if was the first time (but not the last) on which they started

I have dozens of tapes still. Shoeboxes full of them, now neatly filed in a cabinet, and only a few of them have withered away to unplayable status after decades. A few years ago there was a resurgence of cassette tapes apparently, but really, I never stopped playing them, so I'm both oldfashioned and trendy at the same time ha ha.

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteSomeGuy One of my favourite albums, still. Actually the first Stones record I owned. I have always regarded it as a fresher, more modern sounding album than the more or less stale sounding GHS, something which was confirmed by the story about Jimmy Miller wasting their time at the studio and Keith and Mick taking over the production duties at the time. I wouldn't want to spoil the fun but to call that guitar bit of Get Close a riff seems a bit far fetched to me.

QuoteMathijs Quotecimaz Quote24FPS I never play this album. I don't even have a copy in my collection. It's a great single, UCOTN. Too bad it's on this totally meh album. Even Dirty Work is better. Totally agree with this statement. If you don't think tracks like Undercover, She Was Hot, Tie You Up, Too Much Blood, Pretty Beat Up, Too Tough and All The Way Down aren't

I Got The Blues Melody When The Whip Comes Down Respectable Before They Make Me Run This is quite literally the only batch of songs I could come up with. I have to say that the opposite is bit more often the case: some songs that I've liked for decades suddenly cease to amaze me the way they used to do. But on the whole I'm pretty much set in my estimation of their songs.

After, what, a little over one week of listening to the album several times a day I've come to the conclusion that it's a rather good record. At first I was thinking there was nary a bad note on the album to be found. Now I have three four categories of songs: - splendid ones (a 9 or 10 mark out of 10): Angry Depending On You Whole Wide World Driving Me Too Hard - pretty goo

QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotekovach QuoteTopi It's interesting that Mick pronounces some words in British English. Like "glass" and "past". Usually when he sings he pronounces them the American way. It's an OK rocker but not among the best songs on the album, IMO. Yes it catches your attention, I've never heard him sing that way before. I think I've

Quotebakersfield Quotetoorude No, it's Five Foot One you should listen to.... Yes you're absolutely right. It's Five Foot One. Very similar riff and a great track in its' open right. Not a copyright issue as the songs take different directions. But a very similar riff.... The similarity between the two songs is a bit far fetched if you ask me.

RIP We exchanged a few memories about the Tattoo You album and tour when we, being the same age, both became fans, and amazingly enough also about a show in 2007 in Nijmegen (the one with the huge thunderstorm), which he apparently attended as well.

I buy every official release (but not each and every from the vault ones because I don't need fifteen live versions from the same tour, nor every re-release), which in my case entails every official studio album, every official live album or current video album, all the singles/B-sides that are not featured on albums. I am not interested in compilations unless there's tracks on them

I started playing Page's record and didn't like it. A friend called and told me he had bought the exact same two records and didn't even finish playing Page but put on DW instead, bec
