QuoteLazarusSmith Interesting stuff. But, in light of Bill's "womanizing," I found things like this a bit rich. Seems like ol' Bill may be indulging in a bit of historical revisionism? Also, of course, I was bringing up a child, as I was married. I had an 8-month-old son when I joined the band, who I got custody of when we were divorced, and I brought him up. You kno

QuoteTornAndFried I have a question about this auction for anyone. Why do auction houses such as Christies always seem to set unrealistically low auction estimates for items such as these guitars when we all know they are most likely going to sell for much higher? Is it some kind of psychological incentive for people to bid on them? Or tax assessment? It's a psychological thing. I don

Quotelem motlowThis is a guy whose whole life was 27 damn years.never a chance to age and reflect, never a chance to make amends or apologize. And yet he’s judged as someone who lived a full life but his accomplishments have been diminished and his shortcomings have been highlighted for 50 years. This is a really good point. In an interview a few years back, Bill mentioned that people have tend

QuoteCaptainCorella How can you possibly state with such certainty that Pasche didn't see the Aldridge book? I know (because I had already graduated from university in 1969 when it was published and could afford to buy things like that) that when it (the book) was first published it got an IMMMENSE amount of publicity and it would have been hugely contrary for anyone studying contemporary a

Quotedcba Quotesaltoftheearth If you listen to Midnight rambler from BRUSSELS AFFAIR which IMHO is simply the greatest live track in rock ever recorded you will hear an almost incredible interplay between Keith and Mick T. (and the others, of course). This is the challenge he needs to bring out the best 100% right and this is part of the "Stones curse" MT was a victim of. The Stone

I don't have an opinion one way or the other about the quality of the artwork in question, but it's interesting to see that he included Darryl as a member of the core band.

Quotesteffialicia Mick's saying he is feeling much better does sound as if he was exhibiting symptoms. There is nothing more I would love than to see them but I've got to say I am a bit nervous about it. Not a good way to head into a show. I hope he gives himself enough time to fully recover. Agreed. I'm sure he's anxious to get back to running his customary daily maratho

I saw a show on the Urban Jungle tour in Paris. It was great. I had seen them twice before, and for me it was really nice to hear performances of the songs that were closer to the original recorded versions. Looking back, I suppose it was the thin edge of the Vegas Era wedge sliding in, but at the time it felt more like the band devoting a great deal of resources and effort to ensure that the

QuoteHairball Quotedrewmaster QuoteStoneage Quotedrewmaster QuoteStoneage That's even more expensive than the Meet & Greet in Hyde Park which was £21,500. And that one didn't include the band; just the Lord of Wimbledon... and a glass of cider plus a leaflet. When was the last time the Stones did a meet and greet where you could meet the band, and how much did that cost? Drew

I hesitate to say it, but this LP never did it for me. There's not a song on it that I ever feel the need to hear. When it came out, everyone was enthusing about how the Stones were back, baby, so I tried my best to like it, to no avail. Emotional Rescue has better songs, really.

Quotedoitywoik Quote24FPSI think they're nervous about the album. They've been coasting so long, and depending on their live act, that an actual studio album might fall far below Stones level. If they had released an album every three or four years after ABB there would be no possibly-too-big-expectations problem now. Well, that and the fact that Blue and Lonesome was actually quite

Ironically, one of the most interesting interviews with Mick and Keith I've read in a long time was in Fortune sometime around 2001, and it was all about the Rolling Stones as a business.

QuoteGravityBoy The real sad thing is that Ronnie never made the same scale of contributions to the Stones. Either he wasn't allowed or he was a bit shy. Agreed. I saw Faces way back in 1974 or 75, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. I loved Ron's guitar playing. He had a really raw sound that he completely abandoned when he joined the Stones. I'd love

Quotedcba QuoteSomeGuy I actually think Dirty Work has a good cover, simple but symbolic (Mick hanging onto the band with one limb only, so to speak), the 80s colours of their clothes obviously 'staged' (no one really believes that that was what they would be wearing at the time right?). Opposite opinion : they made a huge mistake hiring Annie Leibovitz for the cover as - by the m

Quotetimbernardis Was there a specific opportunity? plexi In the interview I read, Mick didn't go into detail, but he seemed to be referring to a specific chance to meet him. I suppose he must have been in the same town as Elvis at some point, and someone offered to arrange a visit. Mick said that he declined because John Lennon had told him it was a bit of a disappointment, but

QuoteRocky Dijon As for Keith, I just viewed him as a highly functioning addict/alcoholic. Absolutely, and it's worth noting that he was a rich man before his alcohol and drug intake escalated. It's a lot easier to be "highly functioning" if you don't have immediate money worries, and if the people around you let you regularly pull stunts like showing up hours late for

Quotejlowe The tours can't be for financial reasons: how much money do you need when you are in your seventies? Sadly, I don't know this firsthand, but all I can assume from observing is that at some point having a lot of money shifts your goal from being able to buy or do stuff, to just plain having more money.

Quotebitusa2012 QuoteRomanCandle Am I the only one who doesn't like this song? No. It's wafer thin to me. All style, no substance. At BEST, it sounds like The Stones. Agreed. There's really not much to it. As someone here once pointed out, with Exile the band achieved what they had set out to do in 1962. I think that after that point, there was nothing left for them to do. It&#

Quotejlowe QuoteCousinC The Leavell stuff brings back what Glyn Johns said about the Stones' way to record and especially Dance little Sister. As a musician myself it would drive me crazy. After playing a song more than 3-4 times in a row it mostly looses momentum and sharpness. I'd like to know what Leavell and all those people really think of them. Uum..reminds me of Ry Cooder&#

Quotedoitywoik As for long cds, yes, this complaint comes up every once in a while. It's just that it would be impossible to find a consensus among fans ... which songs should have been left out. I may be mistaken, but I think the Stones are unique in that the people who would describe themselves as huge fans completely disagree as to what is their best and worst material and lineup. Peopl
