For me IORR is a top album alright. It's got more raw and raunchy songs on it than its immediate, softer predecessors in that it has the guitars turned up more loudly than before, Jagger singing more abrasive than usually (not always a good thing though here it works), the drums are heavier. To me it is their first more modern, fresh sounding and almost hard rock like record they made, befor

Personally I find nothing dull about IORR. The lp was sounding pretty good but the first cd I got (CBS) was disappointing (being of the first generation of dull and listless remasters for cd during the 80s, like the awful TY, GHS and Sticky Fingers jobs that CBS did). The Virgin cd was a huge improvement, I thought. Never needed anything else.

The 1994 Virgin remasters are generally the best for all Stones cds since 1970 in my opinion. Except that they cut off the funny blip sound at the end of Hide Your Love off Goats Head Soup but that's another story. Luxury is longer than the version on the IORR lp that I got in 1982.

The comparison is rather obvious. Perhaps Brian was the first person to mention it, before everyone else did. It shows that they were very aware of what they were doing. What strikes me the most is the fact that Brian was even there to say this, in mid '68, along with Mick, i.e. at a time he was already totally frustrated with the band, hardly showing up and all.

Quotegeorgelicks Quotemailexile67 Is HD still in the charts in some countries? Universal did an amazing job to keep the album high in the charts until Christmas, but after that it went from Top 10 to out of the Top 100/200 in less than a month almost everywere. In a trend that had already started with Blue and Lonesome, a new Stones release is treated as a seasonal album, a Christmas album,

My first Kinks show was in 1984, when their highly underrated album 'Word Of Mouth' was released. That was when their slow fall from fame started, before that they had successful records in the US at least, and in 1980 they had a no. 1 hit in The Netherlands. The last show I saw was in 1993. After that I saw Ray's solo shows a couple of times. Always great atmosphere, fanatical c

The two-disc To The Bone is indeed a great record to go out with. In the liner notes, however, Ray writes about songs that would turn up on future Kinks releases. They never did of course. I get the impression that the reunion rumours always start to float about when they have some record to sell, be it an expanded reissue, a solo record or a compilation. This has been the template since 2004 o

One note on the side: actually Don Was did get to say that some tracks that the Stones had wanted on VL weren't going to be included.

Quotemicha063 Quotemickschix Here we go, dissed Chuck AGAIN! Very tiresome! Chuck & Bernard add a tremendous amount of possitivity to the Stones' overall sound. I think some people just like being negative...to quote some genius from long ago, " if it ain't broken, don't fix it!" I hope Chuck's wife is well enough so he CAN tour with the band this year. I've

QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotehockenheim95 QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotehockenheim95 QuoteMuddyw Now let's hope it is mixed decent, like the Mocambo Live, and it won't sound anything like Live Licks or Four Flicks. There is something off on those. I am 99% Sure it'll be the same mix as the BBC Broadcast from 2022. Guitars upfront! Judge yourself: I hope you're right,

Almost Hear You Sigh was, as a, what, fourth single? pretty big in The Netherlands I think. A totally underrated song. But the idea is indeed: first single is THE hit song off the album, the rest is minor in terms of commercial performance, has been that way since the early 70s. In fact most of the 60s singles were not featured on the albums anyway.

I don't quite see the connection between so called power chords and pop, really. And to me ER is way more 'poppy' than HD, I have to say.

Funny how people can have different experiences. When VL came out no one seemed to be interested here: listening parties at shops went by unattended, people said it was a commercial flop (which it wasn't, of course). I think it is one of the better 'latter day' albums, but the production is a bit lame, whereas the songs are (mostly) reasonably good. Also, I don't get the Exil

Now that we've established that it doesn't matter one bit who is in the band at all, we can all console ourselves with the notion that, as long as Mike Love is in there, they will still be The Beatles

QuotePaintMonkeyManBlack Good move, however I found Chanel way to dominant in the recording of I think Tumbling Dice at the Racket. I agree. Somehow the idea of having to listen to Tina Turner singing backup with every Stones tune doesn't appeal much to me.

Ronnie is the guy who replaced the guy who replaced Brian. Technically he is a Stone, as in: official band member. But really, are all members of Lynyrd Skynyrd 'real' band members too? I believe none of the original members are still there, like in that other southern band, Molly Hatchet, same story. Or take Kiss, or Judas Priest with only the singer and bassist left in the band, or U

QuoteSighunt QuoteSomeGuy Didn't Spanish Tony claim in his book that the Ya-Ya thingy was taken from some voodoo stuff? That would explain the album sleev
