Exile On Main Street defines the magic of the Rolling Stones for me...so many different grooves, from Jagger's gut-wrenching vocal in " Let It Loose" to the harp intro of " Sweet Virginia" to " All Down The Line" with it's whirlwind tempo to the brilliant intro of " Sweet Black Angel"...all of the songs on Exile are little masterpieces in their ow

I love the idea of a totally different show...more unplugged, less jumping around...focusing on the quality of the music, packed with deep cuts & gems...it makes sense to the hard core fans..but not the ones seeing the band for the first time. I say to HELL with them, pamper and spoil the fans who have followed the Stones for over 55 years! It doesn't have to involve story-telling and I

I wonder if there's a chance they'll play the TD BANK NORTH Arena in Boston as long as they're playing Foxboro...I HATE Gillette Stadium....a nightmare to get to! Boston Hotels are more expensive than NYC! What's the new name for the Watchovia Centre in Philly...it used to be The First Union Center 1999 for No Security. Is that the arena that they might play?

Speaking up for fans like myself who crave " deep cuts" and arena shows...we are NOT TRAITORS! We are hard core fans who have, no doubt, seen the band dozens of times....I've seen 40 so far. The combination of a stadium show and almost ALL war horses on the set list is far less appealing after all of these years than an arena show with potentially 6 or 7 GEMS tossed in. The new alb

Marco, your song made me cry..it is sincere, heartfelt and it actually sounds like it could be a Stones song. I hope the band gets to hear it. I'm sure they'll appreciate it as much as I do.

I would love to think the motivation for their tour is not just money BUT they've stopped playing MSG and all arenas in favor of stadium shows....which I happen to hate! Even if they only fill a stadium 70-80% capacity or less, they make a TON more money than a night in an arena that holds maybe 22,000. Unless you happen to have a seat way up front in a stadium, you feel LOST, even with the

Richard Houghton's Book On The Stones 1972 Tour written by the fans who attended shows on this incredible Tour Of America! It just came out this past fall and I have a copy because I am one of the writers. The recollections are very interesting, to say the least. Check it out, Google SPENWOOD BOOKS & Richard Houghton and you'll see the book cover, it has a pair of dice on the cover.

My sincere condolences go out to Shirley's entire family. It is especially sad being so close to Christmas. I fully expect that she is in a far better place and has joined Charlie there...wherever that is. RIP Shirley.

I agree, RBK! So, you have seen Queen, Zep & Cream live? Was that the theme of your essays? I'm happy to hear that you participated in Richard's " projects"! And SWEET THINGS, I'm glad that you have enjoyed his book on the 60's...it WAS really well done. I'm sure you'll enjoy the latest book on the Stones 1972 Tour.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am SICK of stadium shows! That's all I have to say....except I long for arena shows where weather is NOT an issue and there are far fewer drunks!

" All Down The Line-A People's History of the Rolling Stones' 1972 North American Tour" has been published! Richard is a prolific British writer who I found out about HERE, on TELL ME awhile back and that's why I'm telling everyone about it today. I replied to his post requesting submissions for this publication and because I have quite a story about a show that I a

Rush....anything by RUSH because that lead singers' voice is horrific! Also anything by the Grateful Dead...as boring as it can get! Add to that 99% of RAP and Hip Hop with lyrics that go beyond disturbing...however, thankfully most of the lyrics are unintelligible!

Let It Loose is never going to be played live, IMO, and it's a shame really. One of Mick's all- time BEST vocal performances, ever!

Yes, LieB, I hope this book turns out to be a special tribute to the Stones and that 1972 Tour. I wish more folks from this board were participating. I don't recall Stevie Wonder being that fabulous...he is always very good but it's doubtful that he " blew the Stones off the stage"...and for the fans, we were not there to see Little Stevie Wonder...especially after thinking th

Was anyone here approached by Richard to contribute their personal story about the Rolling Stones 1972 tour of America? I posted a few brief paragraphs on a thread that appeared here on IORR about 8 months ago & he contacted me via email and requested a longer version of my story. I submitted it and apparently it will be included in his book due out this Spring/Early Summer. I was just curio

I would have to say of my 40 Stones concerts the best ones were August 8, 1975, Rich Stadium, Buffalo...99,000 fans with a stripped down stage because the show was a last minute add-on and all 3 No Security shows in Philly 1999. But, needless to say, any Stones show is 1000 times better than any other concert!

Bam, that was very perceptive...the comparison of Mick to Tony Bennett. ( You do know that our discussing Mick's singing is pissing off a few folks who hate that we " veered off topic!" LOL!! ) Mick can still sing and when he concentrates on his delivery the results are enough to bring a tear to your eye...case in point, resent versions of Wild Horses, as I said earlier. I think he

Mathiys, I doubt that the majority would think that Mick's singing is awful...I've just listened to a version of " Wild Horses" from about a week ago and it was one of the best live versions that I've heard to date. And in my opinion, " Sad, Sad, Sad " is just an awful song...I have no idea why it's included in the set list...except that they want to sell t

Aside from Keith's totally out of tune lead in " Sad, Sad, Sad, " I thought they did a really good job on that song....which is not one of my favorites but still...it was over-all not a great set list from my perspective...don't love " Far Away Eyes"...still great to hear the Stones sounding so ALIVE & STRONG!

Words can't do justice to the essence of Mick Jagger. All of the accolades, all of the superlatives don't come close to describing him. How do you summarize this kind of phenomenon? Certainly there has never been nor will there ever be another like him. Personally I owe him a huge debt of gratitude for enriching my life in hundreds of ways. I often try to imagine what my life would have

I get a real kick out of those criticizing their colorful clothes...what would you prefer they wear...just jeans and a sloppy t-shirt? Why would anyone bother to make such an insipid comment? I guess they're forgetting that not everyone has a great seat and the Stones try to be SEEN by those way back as well as those lucky enough to be in the front...why did I even bother to reply to this??

I agree with you 100%, THE WORST! Jagger is the glue, he is the most disciplined man on the planet. No Mick, no Stones...such an obvious thing to say...he has applied himself, every single day, to maintaining his health, he stays in shape through a lot of hard work...that's why I'm not in agreement with those who say the Stones were LUCKY...yeah, they were LUCKY to have Mick as their fr

First of all, I don't see Mick as a 78 year old man up on that stage....and THAT is one big reason the Stones have survived. When he " moves like Jagger", that is Mick being Mick, not attempting to look 28...if he didn't skip and move about the way he does, there would be those who would say " he's LOST IT, he's feeling his oats!". He naturally pulls it off

I hope Stern is respectful. Will he talk about L'Wren and her suicide? There are some very delicate topics that will be very off-putting for Mick...and will he talk about some of Keith's comments in " LIFE"? If he goes there, Mick will shut him down. That will determine the tone of the interview. It will be interesting to see what Mick says about how the band is reacting to Ch
