The band were amazing! I saw them (minus Robbie Robertson...so they were not truly The Band) in an old train terminal in Buffalo in the early-mid 80s. They were amazing musicians who played extraordinarily well together. And they may have been the BEST band from North America. It would make a thread about 1000 pages long on here. Definitely better than CCR, who could rock and had some great

A great song, and the first band I really found and loved. The Beatles, Zep and Stones were all over the radio, but in the States you had to dig a bit to find Procol Harum in the early-mid 70s. It could set a huge legal precedent. Two things I find odd: 1. He waited 40 years, and though he left the band in 1969 or so, he came back and played with them a few times afterward. You'd

Hated Indian Girl. Loved Cherry Oh Baby. I kind of miss LPs in that they were structured as 2 halves, sometimes each with their own personality. A song that fit on one half, sounded out of place in the other. (best example: Tattoo You). Time was also limited to 35-45 minutes, so while you had less music, you had less room for filler or duds.

Wayne Perkins did a nice job playing guitar on the studio version of Hand of Fate. How did the band handle finding a new guitarist when Taylor left? A couple of different people played on Black and Blue. Were they auditioning people like Perkins before finally choosing Ronnie, or did they just bring in Perkins for a session? I know little about that era of the band. From why Mick Taylor lef

Wow, though many of those bands are not popular here (babyshambles, pullni sisters, mark ronson, kathy melua, nightwish, gabrielle), they probably have something current to say (crappy or not). Most of Mick's solo stuff didn't sell all that great to begin with, so I imagine there is little interest in buying it in compilation. The only interest would be from fans who want the few unrel

BV: I don't know how you handle it all anyway. This has to be a lot of work for you. Hopefully people will refrain from starting non-core topics and nt put the burden on you to police. Without a doubt: Exiles. If I only could pick one album to listen to for the rest of my life, by any artist, this would be it. Easily the greatest record of all time, and runs a wide gamut of musical styles. I'll be cranking it on my way home shortly!

Definitely not about politics on this thread. I come on this board to ESCAPE real life, politics (and work). It has created a good discussion. I love a diversity of opinions. Will we be discussing religious overtones of songs, next? LOL

Thanks Gazza. Always a definitive answer. Though the Stones were not their best, best that day, they were still good, and it was a great event. Huge crowd, but extremely peaceful and easy going. Toronto and it's people regularly impress me.

Rock-n-roll is about rebellion. Usually social, sometimes political, sometimes plain anarchy. Rebel without a cause or rebel without a clue. I applaud them for speaking their mind on something other than love and sex and violence. I wish more artists would. You don't have to agree with it, and it may not sway your vote, but it might start a discussion, and that's a good thing. Ra

Mickschix: I was outside listening to the show for a while as a 15 yr old. I had to wait till '78 to see them at the Stadium. There were tons of people outside listening in '75. Does this thread count paid attendance? If that's the case I would think Toronto SARS wins?

Politics and Music? They go together wonderfully. I even like the fact that it is kind of shallow, like so many Neocons are (Fox News anyone?). Not their best political statement. No up there with CSNY, Dylan, Bob Marley, Springsteen, REM or even some of the Stones other political songs (Undercover, Highwire, Gimme Shelter,). Certainly above the Back to Zero level (good message on Back to Zer

Wow, Maine Road...these discussions always bring a wide array of opinions, but your list is the first one on here that I totally disagree with. As I read lists I see some really bad songs that i forgot about (Under the Boardwalk, Thief in the Night), but the 5 on your list are all songs I not only like, I'd like to see live. 1. Melody - so soulful 2. Cherry Oh Baby good reggae cover whe

Wow, I'm kind of amazed at how many 'Back to Zero' mentions. I always thought, especially at the time, it was a good anti-nuke message, Not a great song, but at least had some message. Also 'Have you seen your Mother'...I'd love to hear this live with the horn section they have. My least favorites are: Gomper - bad attempt at doing something psychedelic

I would have loved 4 or 5 songs from ABB when I saw the tour in Toronto. I believe we got 2: Rough Justice and Oh No.... In 1981 I got to see them do Tops, which they stopped doing pretty much completely early in the tour (it was great live) In 1978 half the crowd (or more) in Buffalo had zero idea what the Stones were playing when they opened with Let It Rock, and later proceeded to ru

They'll have to rehearse somewhere. I am hoping in Toronto again. 90 minutes away from me, with several possible venues they could play. And I do think stadiums are no longer a great option for them. Yes they had a massively high grossing tour, based more on ticket prices than attendance. Residency for a couple of shows in an arena could be more profitable (smaller stage, smaller s

78 was great. I pcked my name for IORR from my first Stones show, July 4, 1978 in Buffalo. It was one of the first dates on the tour and Some Girls was not all over the radio yet. People either came out bewildered (that they played so few hits, and played such a short set) or pumped up (because we just got friggin' rolled over by a freight train called the Stones....sounding fresh, vibr

I would find a way to make it to see them...if it were the Stones. Thankfully, it's just Led Zep.....and I have never been much of a fan, Once I saw Song Remains the Same I was turned off forever.

On a radio show that I downloaded from this site, where Mick and Keith are playing recordings of some of their favorite music, I believe Mick mentions loving bootlegs and having bootlegs of some old jazz and blues stuff. I think any record collector or lover has a few boots. With the Stones eclectic tastes, and love of some hard to find music, I would guess they each own more than a few boo

Check out: White Stripes (they are a lot deeper and more dverse than what you might see on MTV) Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings (Aretha Frankln meets Janis Joplin with a killer backup band) A zillion New Orleans Soul musicians that are playing somewhere near you (if you're in the States) since they can't live by playing in just New Orleans. They are traveling constantly. T

I don't know much about a new stage, but I'm told part of the Steel Wheels stage was donated to Buffalo's Shakespeare in the Park festival when the band was done with it. Where will the ABB stage end up? Do they reuse parts from one tour to another?

OK, he may be talented. I can't distinguish his vocals live. I'm just not sure WHY he's in the Stones? When did they start needing an extra guitarist? When did the band get to the point that Ronnie, Keith, Darryl, Chuck, Charlie, a horn section, 2 backing vocalists and occasonally Mick on guitar couldn't provide a full live sound? (By the way I like Mick's live guita

I think the Outlaws will billed as 'The Florida Guitar Army'. A very good live act. In 1975 they opened the last show of the Stones US Tour, here in Buffalo. I believe it was The Outlaws, Bobby Womack (who did the original It's All Over Now) and The Stones. (Though from most accounts, the Stones were a mess that day, though the 80,000 people there didn't seem to mind).

So this guy worked with the Beach Boys...and not during a dreative period like Pet Sounds? The fact that the Stones somehow need a backup singer/backup guitarist with a lightweight past is a disappointment. Everytime I see him playing off to the side I have to wonder how far Keith has slipped that they need a 3rd guitar on a song.

Got a chance to see Elvis Costello and Paolo Nutini on Friday night. I also got to see Black Rebel Motorcycle Club a few weeks ago. I know all opened at least one Stone show on the ABB Tour. I've seen Elvis before, but this was my first time seeing Paolo. Both were good...but I can't see either being a great opener for the Stones. Elvis has always appealed to a different crowd...and

The whole band was playing with fire. Keith is amazing. Bill and Charlie doing their usual masterful job. And Taylor taking his play to new heights. My only disappointment with anything I have listened to from the Taylor era is that I was too young to attend any shows at that point. Weird thought, but....Springsteen and the E-Street Band is considered one of the greatest live acts ever (

Tour with Stones = splitting profit 4 ways Tour Solo = keeping all the profit Sure it would be pop....but it might also have some cool covers or maybe some blues. I even bet the rhythm guitar he brings on tour will remember the chords for Brown Sugar. : )

Taylor's playing on Brussels in magnificent. Lead guitarist playing leads. Though I believe Ronnie's playing if better with the Stones now than at any time since he joined the band, I wonder what might have happened if Taylor hadn't left. Would his play have kept Keith's from sinking? Ron and Keith are great friends, but maybe something better would have come out, musical
